I would really like to gather some info on Dmitry Sokolov. It's hard to find anything about him, but I have heard some great things about him. I even heard that he could be one of the best Russian prospects in quite some time and that by the time his draft year comes around he could be better than yakupov or even go 1. Anyways can anybody give me there thoughts and opinion on him. Maybe describe his game a lilbit? Who does his game or style of play compare too?

I don't think he can be a legitimate top prospect until he passes 5 feet tall. ;)

I dont know much about him, but he is from that group of "supposed to be superstar" players like Yakupov/Grigs/Nichushkin/Kuznetsov. I heard that he plays like Nichushkin. And yes he is 6'0 now.

Anything on this kid? How about the other top 98 Russian Vitaly Abramov? Who's better or has more potential?

Well, that's what I've found while surfing the internet about the kid.
Dmitry Sokolov 14.04.1998
Plays for Avangard-98, Avangard-97. Played also for Avangard-96, Serebryannye Lvy-98, Avtomobilist-97 and several times for Traktor-98.
His stats for Avangard-98:
season: 2008 games: 6 goals: 17 assists: 7
2009/2010: 14-31-11
2010/2011: 5-5-1
2011/2012: 18-37-25
2012/2013: 10-13-7

Avangard-97:
2008/2009: 34-70-43
2009/2010: 23-35-36
2010/2011: 32-43-35
2011/2012: 34-52-43
2012/2013: 34-44-38
World Selects Invitational 2011 with Avangard-97: 3g. 6a. in 7 games
World Selects Invitational 2012 with Traktor-98: 13g. 5a in ? games
Had 2g. 7a. in 5 games for Avtomobilist-97 in 2012.
Had 7g.1a. in 5 games for Traktor-98 in 2013.
Had 3g. 4a. in 5 games for Avangard-96 in 2008/2009.

Scouts are very high on the kid. They say he is a great skater and perfectly sees the ice, its very hard to know what is going to happen when he is on the ice. He is a winger, but also plays C.
What I can say judging from what I saw on the video above is that Sokolov has just great "Semin-like" hands and a very good wrist shot.

This actually helps a lot. Thank you so much for posting. I was wondering if u had anything similar on Vitaly Abramov? Then I could kinda make my own comparison.

Are most people who know about this kid expecting him to be a top 5-10 pick in 2016?

I have seen him play and i expect him IF he keeps continuing like he does on his curve that he has the potential to be a top 5 pick with a big possibility of being the top prospect i feel he is that good....with that said i have him 1st in my early rankings of him, the kid is just amazing, I compare him to a young Evgeny Malkin

Sokolov has a certain type of finesse to his game that is rare to see in a prospect, but I'm skeptical about him being the top prospect in this draft. I watched him play with the Russian U16 national team and was hoping to see him have a higher overall impact to the game.

Malkin is a big, rangy behemoth that's strong on the puck. As of now Sokolov is clearly smaller, he doesn't have the best balance and his straight line speed isn't special in comparison to his peers. I don't think Malkin is the best comparison for Sokolov.

Who do you like more Patrik Laine or Sokolov?

Laine, Puljujärvi and Juolevi were high impact players playing a year up with the U17 Finnish national team, while Sokolov was one of the highest skilled players on a good Russian U16 national team.

You might say that the 3 Finns are slightly more advanced in some aspects of the game in comparison to Sokolov, but that there's no telling which one of them ends up being the top player down the line.

The kid already has a Crosby like build at 16, Eliteprospects now lists him at 5'11 198.
