I read now on hokej.sk that Tikhonov will be one of the Russian coaches. That probably dimishes the Russian chances at the WC.

Yesterday Sport Express contacted Tikhonov who declared that it was decided that he was going to be Russia's coach, but off the ice, and that he won't have direct contact with the players. That is to say he will be responsible for the team's "general strategy", but the federation will name another coach behind the bench.

This is great news because Tikhonov will be sitting with the rest of the crowd writing some stupid stuff in his notebook. Like in Nagano.

I think the presence of Tikhonov, who will not meet the players anyway, will not affect them. Mogilny and Zubov wouldn't play anyway.

His exact words are "right now, the main task is to contact the players", but he didn't say it's his task.

Во вторник в Олимпийском комитете России состоялась встреча председателя ОКР Леонида Тягачева, президента ФХР Александра Стеблина и главного тренера сборной России Виктора Тихонова, на которой были обсуждены перспективы дальнейшей работы нынешнего штаба сборной, сообщает "Спорт-Экспресс".
"Я остаюсь в руководстве команды и начинаю подготовку к розыгрышу Кубка мира, - заявил главный тренер сборной России Виктор Тихонов. - Но буду больше заниматься не практической работой, не тренировками и матчами, а общей стратегией. Сейчас главная задача - в кратчайшие сроки провести необходимые переговоры с кандидатами в сборную на Кубок мира, заручиться их согласием выступать в команде и претворить в жизнь планы подготовки к сентябрьскому турниру, которые были выработаны нами по ходу сезона."
По словам Александра Стеблина, в ближайшие дни в штаб национальной команды будет включен еще один тренер, которому и предстоит осуществлять непосредственное руководство сборной. Обнародовать фамилию этого специалиста Стеблин пока не считает возможным. Также неизвестно, станет грядущее расширение тренерского штаба команды постоянным - или коснется только розыгрыша Кубка мира.
