I've been unable to log on for a number of days due to internet issues. That said if we are moving Nuge for futures I will ****ing riot. One of the few players that has come to play this season so lets deal him for guys that may or may not amount to jack squat.

From the previous thread:

Do. Not. Trade. Nuge.

Nuge isn’t part of the McDavid cluster, his days are limited. It would be much easier to move him this season than the summer when everyone knows we’re desperate for cap space.

Frankly, we need to move past the Austins to progress as a franchise.

If Nuge gets us two talented players, at least one a shooter, that would be a solid move.

When Taylor Hall netted us a "talented" defenseman like Adam Larsson, do you expect two talented players for RNH? Knowing Chia best we get is probably a prospect 1 for 1.

RNH’s value is pretty high right now. The only drawback is then 3/$6 that’s the acquiring team would have to get underneath the cap.

Hall trade has been rehashed over and over. We were and still are not getting elite player for the Austins.
That ideal MacT pushed that the Oilers could bring back an 80s style team was flawed from the start. Not possible in a trap/systems focused league and with the cap.

Why should we move him at all?

Cap is going up, we can afford him. He's having a great year.

Just a dumb idea.

That's how I look at it as well. Unless it's in a deal that we clearly win or we are adding a legit #1D that can be a beast at ES and on the PP it makes no sense.

Our only strength is gonna be the team with the 3 best centres in the league if Chia doesn't trade him for bricks or something.

Hes gotta stay and Nicholson has to overrule all Chias crap trades.

Do we afford paying our 3 line C 6 million a year! Have always liked Rnh potential and he has played really good this season. Rather play him as a topline winger in the future ,then letting Chia playing russian roulette with another asset!

Chiarelli should be informed by Nicholson that he no longer has authority to trade any of the higher end assets on this team. Simple as that, letting him now try to make 'desperation' moves would be ridiculous.

RNH, Puljujarvi, Yamamoto, Nurse, EDM 1st 2018 + 2019 are all off limits, Chia.

The next Oilers GM needs something to work with.

To play devils advocate, you trade him because he likely finally has value. You might actually be able to return a top 4 RHD with offensive ability for him right now, something you wouldn't have been able to do for the past 2+ years.

If that is the amount of faith you have in your current GM it would be imperative to fire him immediately. Since that hasn't' happened, it's pretty unlikely Nicholson has put those kinds of reigns on Chiarelli.

How many forwards are we going to end up trading for "defensive help" before you reach a point where you basically have McDavid + Draisaitl + nothing up front.

This team has completely gutted its forwards core and is a total joke to play against when ever McDavid is not on the ice.

What does this even mean and what does it have to do with RNH?

To play devil's advocate, maybe the MacT's Idea of an 80s-style team is exactly what we need? Speed and skill seems to be where the league is going.

Also playing devil's advocate, I'd rather trade Drai for a true #1 offensive Dman than trade RNH. Drai for OEL? I'd probably do it.

Mcdavid, Draisaitl and RNH should be untouchable at forward with the cap going up. We can look into the UFA pool to get help at RD and on the wing. JP should be a full time player next season and Yamamoto might be also. We will need to fill the Maroon and Letestu spot.

XXX-Mcdavid-JP
Lucic-Draisaitl-Yamamoto
Caggiula-RNH-Strome
Slepyshev-Khaira-Kassian

Derek Ryan could be a UFA target for 4C. Lots of good LW UFA's available like Nash, Kane, JVR, RW UFA is weak. On RD there is Green and Carlson but I doubt Carlson makes it to UFA and if he does it will take a lot to sign him.

They should all be off limits unless OEL is available. That should go unsaid IMO.

So then we have Klefbom, Larsson, Russell, Sekera and new RHD likely all making $4 million + and Nurse looking for a big pay raise. Meanwhile we are paper thin offensively up front which will put a literal **** ton of pressure on McDavid and Draisaitl.

How many forwards are we going to end up trading for "defensive help" before you reach a point where you basically have McDavid + Draisaitl + nothing up front.

This team has completely gutted its forwards core and is a total joke to play against when ever McDavid is not on the ice.

Agreed, we need more skill up front, not less.

When a poster like Soundwave, who was in the anti-Nuge camp last season, says we need him for offence, that really tells you all you need to know.

How many forwards are we going to trade for defensive help? Well... Chiarelli has done that exactly once. Maybe having a d-core that could actually transition the puck would help bolster the offense.

I donno lol.

Nuge plays poorly for years...

"Why would you ever trade him when his value is so low. That's stupid"

Starts playing well for a couple months...

"Why would you ever trade him when he's playing well. That's stupid."

Agreed, we need to add to what we have, not create or enlarge a hole to fill another. In the meantime, how about we get Jesse on track by getting him on the PP? He has the shot that we so badly need but confidence is huge for a sniper.

How exactly do you propose adding to what we have?

My top 9 for next season:

XXX-McDavid-Caggiula
Lucic-Draisaitl-Yamamoto
XXX-RNH-Puljujarvi

I think that we can feasibly ice three really good scoring lines.

Agreed, it tells you that unless you expect him to fall flat on his face that you should keep him.

Or a system that better suits or strengths. Chia committed to Russell for 4 years, that kind of made sure that puck moving wouldn't be a significant strength of ours unless he's on the bottom pairing next to a puck mover.
