None of those guys have scored at a 1.89 points per minute in the NHL over their careers. Dano is right in a range with Teuvo Teravainen, Thomas Plekanec, Patrick Maroon, Andrew Ladd, Reilly Smith, Dylan Larkin, Sam Reinhart, Brad Richards, Jakub Silverberg between 2014-15 and 2017-18. He is 165th out of 414 among forwards with over 100 games over that span. So over he's career he's scored as a bottom end 2nd line player.
Everyone wants to discount what he did in Columbus as a 19 year old rookie. Fine. LAST SEASON he scored at 1.62 points per minute. 206th in the league among players over 30 games played last year. So while playing with garbage he was upper end 3rd line scorer. Not that this was 7th on the Jets.
Go look at Tomas Tatar's AHL stats. AHL stats don't tell the full story in some situation. Players that depend on hockey IQ to score points (Tatar, Moulson, etc) tend to score better in NHL that AHL. And some players that have great natural skills but little IQ don't always translate their lofty AHL numbers to NHL (Jason King for example).
It's not an insult to Dano to offer him a conditioning stint. Never said it was but nice try putting words in my mouth. But Dano is a proven NHL scorer at least the 3rd line level with nothing left to prove at AHL level so he didn't want to go. Good for him on the confidence in himself despite Maurice have little read on how to maximize the talents of his roster.
