This team has had zero pressure to do anything but collect draft picks for nearly ten years. Pressure is overdue.

Me, personally, I'd prefer the best team. You can't tell me we would not be much improved with an experienced backup to spell off Talbot and a third line winger... to say nothing of it the D.

Like I said, Mike Chiarelli better have some rabbits in his hat or this was a wasted opportunity to improve substantially with little relative cost.

Did they stop allowing trades at the draft this season?

Or maybe management believes we can win this year with what we have and that will inspire confidence in the players.

Just a thought.

Exactly. Adding new players to the roster would tell the current players that they aren't good enough. We have depth, no reason to overpay for anything. Would have been nice to grab a backup and let LB carry Bake down the stretch, but there isn't one being dealt that inspires any confidence.

Chia is waiting till after expansion to finish building team. We kept all the picks and 1sts have much more value at draft . I see Chia adding RD pp specialist at draft .

Chiarelli told all of us that he wasn't going to be making big moves or adding big UFA's. Why is anyone surprised at what has transpired?

The expectations some people have of this team are astronomical. I do wish Chia would've gotten a backup but I'm not going to lose sleep over it. Bishop was the only goalie dealt this entire season.

LOL the past week we've joked about the Jared Smithson deadline acquisition.

Then all we get is DD. Hilarious

How do we not get a backup? Are we gonna play Talbs 70+ games and then playoffs. I know he plays better with more games, but that many is worrying. Just have to pray he stays healthy.

lmao a 2nd for Lazar. WTF

I swear some GMs just look at draft position and blow their load on crappy players *looks at Chairelli and Reinhart*

I cant wait to pick up Lazar off waivers in December 2017

You don't mess with this team chemistry - it's solid - and they got some help. DD is not a fav but he's a real NHL player and will push Cags down or out of the lineup and Leon can stay with McDavid. Chia did what he said he would - get the team a bit of help - and people who wanted a blockbuster are out to lunch. We get to test drive DD and if he plays well we might re-sign him for a lower cap hit and trade Letestu. But for now we just pushed a kid (Cags) who was in over his head out of the lineup which is good.

Why are people surprised that Vrbata wasn't traded. His bonuses were a killer. Too many teams up against the cap wall and were looking at that and thinking that's alot of cap penalties next year.

I'd rather Chiarelli stand pat than add a bunch of crappy forwards like BargainBin did in Montreal.

I wanted a backup though.

Still would've liked to see a backup. Better to give Talbot some rest and LB playing time in the minors.

Not happy with not getting a better back up option though. Broissoit may well cost us another 2-4 points down the stretch, on top of the 6 points we've probably pissed away on Gustavsson.

Should have just kept Nilsson in the first place.

LOL.. Cup run. That's where you went wrong

Yeah, I mean, why take advantage of McDavid's ELC and a flat trade market by trading late picks for NHLers? Better to wait until Connor and Leon are making $16M or more combined before we start adding salary.

Massive, massive missed opportunity by Chia if DD was all he could accomplish.

The bonuses were easily manageable with a contract coming back.
