Even without the goal, he looks quite good. But then again I was really impressed with Wotherspoon and Sproul too. The battle for a spot on the blueline is ridiculous.

Wotherspoon came on at the end I think, he wasnt very noticeable which is good I guess. But at the beginning he was pretty bad. Bad penalty and had at least one pretty bad turnover at his own blue line that led to a good scoring chance.

Is Wotherspoons game more as a shut down guy, offensive or two way usually? I didnt see much offensively from him out there

The Team Red VS. White Canadian World Junior Intersquad game took place this morning in Calgary. Team Red took the game 3-1. Frankie Corrado awnsered his critics for a minute with the GWG. RNH also had a goal(empty netter but nonetheless a goal). Subban let in 2 goals on 16 shots, and Brossy relived him making 17/18 saves. That's it Brossy!

The first cuts are tomorrow morning!! This will be very interesting. You got this Dumba!

Simple, because they need enough bodies to field two teams so they can scrimmage

no scrimmages are to put final evaluations on players, if Shinkaruk keeps playing like he did today, hes an example of a guy no one though would make it but played himself on, much like Foligno

Huberdeau and RNH seemed to be developing chemistry, but Scheifele looked out of place. They need someone else on that line. While Drouin had some offensive moments, he also had give aways and definitely looked physically weaker than the other players. He is looking like a long shot, but that was already suggested before the camp, so no one should be too surprised. I think it is unfortunate that TC is going to cut everyone at once. I hope some of these combos get switched around to see if others mesh. It would suck to get stuck with a couple guys on your line that are unlikely to make it and get dragged down with their play.

Team White
Stand Outs:
Ritchie
Strome
Harrington
Jenner
Shinkaruk

Poor Showing:
Murphy
Pelech

Team Red
Stand Outs:
Reinhart
Rielly
Hamilton
MacKinnon
Huberdeau
RNH
Danault

Poor Showing:
Dumba
Wotherspoon

My adjusted line up after one game
MacKinnon - RNH - Huberdeau
Scheifele - Strome - Ritchie
Shinkaruk - Jenner - Rattie
Hudon - Danault - ?
?
Rielly - Hamilton
Oulette - Harrington
Reinhart - ?
?

Not sure about those last two forward spots or defense. I do know that I don't want Dumba on the team and Murphy honestly doesn't look great. I love high risk/high reward defenseman, but he makes too many mistakes. Also, I don't think we really need a PP specialist this year. Hamilton and Rielly are more than good enough. I would prefer a 7th D that can slip in and play anywhere. If one of the top 6 D get injured, I certainly wouldn't feel overly confident in Murphy taking a regular shift. I'd rather 2 of Sproul, Corrado or Pouliot for the team. I'm sure Oulette is being rested just a little bit more, but think his spot is secure. I really hope that the coach isn't too set on Hudon in the top 6. I think he is a great player, but I just don't think he is as offensively dynamic as other choices. Plus, he is a hell of a pain in the a$$ to play against and would be perfect in a checking role. He just doesn't stop trying full out all the time.

We'll see how this changes after the next two games ;)

He's more of a shut down guy, excels at skating and bringing the play up the ice. Also only has 8PIM this year, he's been very disciplined, which was why I thought that penalty was so odd. He's never been an offensive d-man though, even though his point totals are pretty good this year for a defenseman he is still 4th on Portland for D scoring.

Anyone else hate watching interviews with Spott?
He awkwardly looks at the camera too often and it's like he's staring into your soul.

In my viewings he's been pretty tough an physical but with a good outlet pass, so probably the old '2-way defensman' title works. Although a Flames fan or Winterhawks fan would be better off answering that.

Dumba was all over the place too, looked especially bad early on but made a few decent plays before getting crunched.

Wotherspoon got caught puck watching a couple times and that put him out of position.

Dumba is not suited to the big ice and free flowing hockey, his game is more suited to tight checking, gritty, chippy hockey.

Safe and steady...? Was he watching the same game?

From what I've heard he's a risk taker, whether it's going for the big hit or go for a freewheeling rush, he stayed and played the game that'll work for him at the WJ. And after being hit by Ritchie he seemed to become more aware and really did what he had to and made the right play. He brings an element of physical play that some of the other contending dmen don't have and his past experience and success at the international level still makes me believe he will be given the chance to succeed and prove why he belongs on the team that goes to ufa. I still don't see any of those other dmen overtaking him, you need a soldier like Dumba on a team like this.

I thought the Reinhart/Dumba tandem did enough to at least make them the favourites for the 3rd pairing for now. None of the other d-men vying for the final 3 spots really stood out to me.

As long a shot as it is, if Shinkaruk keeps playing like he did tonight in the next 2 games...I'm not sure you can leave him off can you? He easily outplayed guys like McNeill, Beauvillier, Lipon, Camara, Wilson, Catenacci, Graovac, Monahan, Drouin and then even some of the "shoe-ins" as well.

What's working against him is the fact that the top 6 is virtually set. If Spott is going with the traditional Top 6, Bottom 6 formula, he doesn't really fit the bottom 6 mold.

13th forward position is up for grabs though.

Agreed.

Schiefele, Hubderdeau, Strome, RNH are all guaranteed top 6, and Rattie seems to have the inside track (though he didnt really light it up today) on the 5th spot.

Here is a possibility:
Huberdeau -- RNH -- Rattie
Hudon -- Strome -- Schiefele
Danault -- Jenner -- Ritchie
Monahan -- Mackinnon -- Shinkaruk
McNeill or Wilson

I know it sounds dumb to have the 3 draft eligible forwards on the same line, but Monahan is a very smart positional player, and I really liked the two-way game from Mackinnon tonight, a couple times he was matched against Jenner, and stayed with him in the D zone. I also like Shinkaruk with Mackinnon because I think Hunter has the hands to play with a guy like Nate.

Schiefele didnt work with RNH and Huberdeau at all, and id rather see a more perimeter player like Rattie with them (Huberdeau and RNH both are great down low)

i think monahan will make the team - Spott/HC has flagged it....and bear in mind that, although draft eligible, monahan has a late b-day, so is a '94.

i suspect mckinnon will get in, too...but as the 13th forward and will work his way up...no way he's initially penciled in as a top 6.

like i've said before, drouin won't make it - and shinkaruk will make it long before drouin does.

give it up some of you, even bobby mac was going on about how good corrado played, you don't have to hate the canucks prospects because you hate the canucks

Didn't even realize that Corrado had a goal in the Red vs White game, pretty nice accuracy on the shot too. even though Shinkaruk got a goal and was the only under-ager that did score, I still think only Monahan and Mackinnon have a shot at making the team.

Sproul did well
Pouliot impressed me
Reinhart was steady
Rielly has great skating
Harrington was steady

Graovac better be on this team
Mcneill better be on this team
Wilson better be on this team
Ritchie better be on this team
MacKinnon looked good - good skater
Hudon looked good
Danault impressed after the first period

Shinkaruk - no room for him
Drouin is not ready this year

Monahan had some good shifts

Non Factors:
Pelech did he play ????
Wotherspoon was a not factor as the game progressed
Corrado i didnt expect anything from him
Dumba did not impress
Murphy better not be on this team...1 good rush and thats it...

He only got the game winning goal, and played solid all game. Not to mention getting singled out by both bobby mac and ray ferarro :laugh:

Corrado was a pilon in the first period.

Year dude, except the fact his best attribute is his smooth skating. Some of you guys are so cute. It's okay, we are allowed to be happy about our prospect, stop with the childish comments already.
