I’ve thought EK was signing here for a while.

I don’t however expect the NYR to trade for him and if they did I’d be disappointed.

Just learning about this terrible situation.

Awful. Talk about taking a bad thing and compounding it. Sheesh.

But that has become part of the nature of modern Social Media.

The whole thing is a crazy train, IMHO.

Its use should be sparing, and prudent.

if i was moving the chess pieces, this is what i would hope to do
    sign Tyson Helgesen to ELC
Halverson to Red Wings for Giovanni Smith
DeAngelo, maybe light throw-ins such as Catenacchi pre-UFA for Marlies, Bernhardt to Leafs for Kapanen - but DeAngelo was actually drafted 3 spots ahead of Kapanen
B.Smith, 30% retained to Hawks for Anthony DuClair
Jensen, Holland, Lakatos to Habs for Brett Lernout, Jordie Benn, Mike McNiven
Belelskey($500k retained) , Klingberg, Bigras, Tambellini to Stars for Brett Richie, John Nyberg, Niklas Hansson
Zborovsky, Kampfer, pre-UFA Sproul to Vegas for Kolesar, 2 4ths
Zucarello, Pedrie, Fogarty, Sjahlin, Nanne to Wild for '18 3d, '19 1st, '20 2d, Adam Gilmour, Pavel Jenys, Dmitry Sokolov, Bryce Misley
Spooner to Lightning for Erik Cernak, Ross Colton
Namestnikov to Flames for Rasmus Andersson, Adam Ruzicka
Gilmour, Gropp, Reunan to Coyotes for Max Domi, Cam Crotty, Dean Stewart, Brendan Warren
O'Gara, pre-UFA Carey to Avalanche ro Dominic Toninato
Shattenkirk, Vesey, Adam Gilmour, Bruins '18 3d to Bruins for Jake DeBrusk, Adam McQuiad, Bruins '19 3d
Staal (30% retained), DuClair, Nieves, 2 4th's to Panthers for Alex Petrovic, Nick Bjugstad, Patrick Bajkov, Sebastian Repo, Chris Wilkie
none of it wil happen, but i can make stuff up as well as any one 8^)
(tho i am sure there will be protests by guys arguing they are so much more realistic than i)

Revisiting the topic of "buy low" options out there: Elias Lindholm in Carolina. He's yet to take that next step in the NHL, but I think he could be an intriguing guy to take a flyer on if the price is right. If Quinn is planning on introducing a system that focuses more on puck possession, a kid with his hands and vision could really thrive. I think his situation is somewhat similar to Zibanejad's in Ottawa and adding another right-handed shot would be nice.

Next season will go a long way in determining how I feel about signing EK. (I'm not inclined to trade for him).

    I have some ...concerns.

I’d hold off on selling the farm before we see how everyone plays in the new system. I assume defensemen will be free to skate the puck more and that’ll play to a couple guys strengths and I think the bigger guys, Hayes Kreisler zibanejad vesey, will have greater impacts. And I think the stronger forecheck and hitting will open up passing lanes for the playmakers, buch zibanejad names spoons zucc.

I think we’re going to make a bigger jump this year than others expect

I know we all think Zuccarello is going (and I agree), but if this team is looking to be a pressure-focused team all over the ice, the guy who REALLY doesn't fit that is Ryan Spooner...

I don’t see how the two connect. It’s not like one being dealt is going to prevent the other from going too.

I agree, that is kind of the point I'm making. If they are dealing Zuccarello, IMO they should deal Spooner as well. He won't fit in this new system

What does anyone think about Scott Hartnell as a depth option? Say as a 12th/13th forward

Listening to Sirius XM hockey and there is a guy on from Edmonton (Mark Spector), saying Chiarelli is going to need to look for the 'right guys' to play with their skill players. Namestnikov!!!

Could Chiarelli be more enticed by Spooner?

If you sell it well enough, Chiarelli could be enticed by a wet paper bag.

Maybe, he was drafted under his watch.

    How about Spooner AND Zucc?

Possibly but if they are looking for a guy who can support a superstar, in my mind, I see Namestnikov who can play the boards, take care of his own end and has a track record of being able to support a couple of superstars in the past vs a guy like Spooner who seems to thrive with the puck on his stick. Whoever plays with McDavid will not have the puck very much so they have to be able to get to the open spots, crash the net for rebounds, go the net hard and take care of their own end allowing McDavid to cheat slightly. Same goes for Draisatl.

Being able to properly support a superstar is a skill unto itself. Retrieve pucks and do the dirty work. Kunitz is a good example of the type of guy I'm talking about. Kreider is as well. Guys who don't need the puck on their stick, can retrieve pucks, play the boards, go to the net. It frees up the superstar they are playing with to have the puck more

Team already kinda has no depth. Dealing off 2-3 of your top-9 signals to FAs not to come here and probably makes you rush kids.

If Chytil can develop into what we hope he'll be, I'd love to see sit tight on spending for now while they develop and take a shot at Hall next off season as UFA.

This is much better than my idea of targeting someone like Galchenyuk. I do wonder how much of his offense was suppressed under Peters and if he’d fare better as a long-term RW.

What do you think the cost would be?
