In Pittsburgh, 2 that stick out in my mind without looking for a list are Kris Letang and Jordan Staal. Many are pulling for Letang and has looked IMO excellent. I've been keeping an eye on him since we drafted him and he seems to be getting the name of a fan-favorite. However, he may be held back due to our awful defence-contractual situation. Staal may get a shot as the 2nd line center for the duration of Malkin's injury, which ironically is likely to be less than 10 games (Staal can be sent back to juniors after playing 9 games and not lose a year of eligibility towards his contract). So that seems to be a definite possibility at the moment, if he continues to impress.

For the Canes:
F - Patrick Dwyer
F - Scott Kelman
D - Tim Conboy
D - JD Forrest
G - Justin Peters

I don't think any of them have much of a shot at making the team though, Forrest is probably the closest and that's only if injuries are so bad they need to go to the #10 guy on the depth chart.

OFF-TOPIC: Nice avatar, nomorekids. Don Caballero were awesome. I even saw them play a New Year's show where champagne was handed out at midnight.

Haven't heard the new lineup, but then I'm not terribly interested since Damon is the only original guy left - even if he is the heart of the band.

Wings.

Jiri Hudler - will land a roster spot with the Wings
Evan McGrath - will be sent to GR
Valtteri Filppula - will likely be sent to GR
Tomas Kopecky - might land the 13th forward spot, if not he'll risk waivers on the way to GR
Darryl Bootland - might land the 13th forward spot, if not he'll risk waivers on the way to GR
Ellis - will be sent to GR

Kyle Quincey - will be sent to GR
Jonathan Ericsson - will be sent to GR
Jakub Kindl - will be sent to Kitchener

Jimmy Howard - will be sent to GR
Stefan Liv - will be sent to GR
Joey MacDonald - will stay with Wings as 3rd goalie

Out of Booters and Kopecky, which one of them do you see actually landing the 13th forward job? I'm thinking it would be Booters, but I'm curious to see which one of them you think might make it...I'm sure you've seen them play so far in exhibition and such and would have a better idea than I do.

Edit: Actually I could see both Booters and Kopecky making the team, simply because Johnson's playing future is uncertain right now. If Fisch hasn't gotten the clearance to play yet since his incident,I really don't see Holland risking letting Johnson play either. So with any luck,we will see both Booters and Kopecky on the roster opening night.

Hawks:

Jeff Hamilton (29 YO, but less than 25 games) - A stud on the powerplay. Lacks the speed to play anything near the top 6, but a spot on the fourth line could open up for him as a PP specialist.

Michael Blunden - Probably won't make the team, but its good to see that he's turning heads in camp.

Dave Bolland - Also fighting it out for a 4th line spot, but IMO he'd be much better off getting full icetime in the AHL.

Adam Burish - Yet another player who has a chance, but would benefit more from the AHL. Busts his buns every night.

Matt Keith - So much heart, so little talent. A lot of Hawk fans like him and want to see him on the team, but he adds little.

James Wisniewski and Dustin Byfuglien have been fighting it out for the #7 spot on the defense, but they may both be headed to the A.

Jonas Norqvist - Haven't seen enough of him yet.

Danny Richmond - AHL bound, and thats probably where he'll spend the rest of his career.

Looks like Kris Russell is going to make the Blue Jackets, now that Klesla has been suspended to start the season. He'll probably get the standard "9-game tryout", then get sent back to Medicine Hat, but if he impresses, he could knock Aaron Johnson or Anders Eriksson out of a spot. He's been impressive, and at his size, that's amazing.

Also, Gilbert Brule is going to make the team as a rookie, but that's hardly a surprise. Geoff Platt and Alexandre Picard should also make the team. They played with the Jackets last season, but are still considered rookies.

Doug McLean must have been vomit in his shoes drunk when he decided to sign Eriksson

Also Matt moulson is still in camp for the Kings.

So Moulson, Kopitar and O'Sullivan.

How does Moulson look?

i for one have been rightly impressed with Matt Moulson... he makes himself visible every shift he takes, backchecks, does all the little things, and has a nose for the front of the net.

he is likely ticketed for Manchester (and rightfully so). but he is definitely the type of kid that does have that "this kid came out of nowhere" thing about him. MAYBE!!!

i would also take a stab and say that both Kopitar and O'Sullivan are ready, and will probably start the season in Los Angeles, with one probably getting sent to the "A" when Alyn McCauley comes back.

regardless of how impressed i am with these two, color me one of those Kings fans who'd rather see both of them playing in the AHL this season.

give it a whirl. it's actually pretty decent, and the new guys really try to keep that same vibe. it's not really much like WBNR or American Don...but if you like DC2 or For Respect, you'll like this one. "A Savage Composition," "Sure We had Knives Around" and "Palm Trees in the Fecking Bahamas" are probably my favorites on that new one.

I attended a small reception at Staples Center before the Kings vs. Ducks game tonight (Sep 25, 2006). There was a Q&A session with Assistant General Manager Ron Hextall and I asked him if both Patrick O'Sullivan and Anze Kopitar would be wearing Kings uniforms on opening night of the regular season. His response, paraphrased, is as follows:

Dean Lombardi and I both believe in developing young players the right way by having them advance through the junior/minor leagues. Patrick O'Sullivan has paid his dues, proven himself at the AHL level, and is ready for a shot at the NHL. Anze Kopitar, on the other hand, has not played at that level and, quite frankly, we had him penciled in for Manchester prior to the start of training camp. That being said, we feel that Anze Kopitar has been the best player on the team up until this point and we've taken notice. We'll see how he continues to play for the rest of the preseason and make a decision then. If I had to decide right now... *pauses for a moment*... I'd say both of them will probably be wearing Kings uniforms on opening night.
He also stated that Marc Crawford is commonly considered a "Top 5" coach, but that he personally feels that Marc is the best coach in the league. Ron Hextall also mentioned that Dean Lombardi is one of the hardest working, most hands-on GMs in the league. He believes that most GMs spend much of their time in the office working the phones, but that Dean Lombardi not only does that but is also very hands on. He often goes the extra mile by attending non-NHL games with his scouts.

A number of other questions were asked about the goaltenders, Avery, etc. and the answers were pretty much the stock ones we've all heard during the offseason.

Anyhow, this is my first new post, so please bear with me if I've repeated anything or made any mistakes.

From the way they have performed in training camp you would think Kopitar is the one that scored 47 goals in the AHL last year and is a lock to make the club. Kopitar has looked very good in camp so far. Playing on the PK alongside Frolov and creating a lot of scoring chances. O'Sullivan has looked good too but Kopitar just looks like a veteran out there. Kopitar for Calder!!

Oh I think Kopitar will make it too. Lombardi's earlier comments illustrated how he was hesitant bringing Kopitar in without any AHL time, but if he's really excelling in camp, I think the Kings should seriously consider having him start with them. I would.

Regarding O'Sullivan, he has absolutely nothing to prove in the AHL, so it would be useless at this point to keep him off one of the top 2 or 3 lines in Los Angeles. But I'm sure Kings fans already know that. :D

One-dimensional players are not Cornell coach Mike Schaefer's cup of tea. ;)

well... he and Noah Clarke got sent down today. but Matt definitely caught my eye. i hope he keeps it up, "plays hard," and has a terrific season for the Monarchs!

I'm glad he stayed in camp as long as he did, and I'll be cheering for him along with Kings fans. :)

id want to say kopecky only because he brings probably a lot more of what we could use then bootland. Tho booter would be a fighter/agrivator, but how many fights a night do we see these days?
