There is clearly not enough parking around that construction site, and imagine all the traffic it's causing

Nah, would need quite a lot more Rottweilers and police tape for that comparison.

Gotta have a decrepit wave pool in there too somewhere. Hey, nothing in the picture changed from day one to day two! You get down there and crack some heads together!

@Slicknitty

It looks like your office is right above the construction ground.

It would be very cool to make a time lapse of now until grand opening.

There are plenty Impark lots around the area... and Katz owns some more land in the ghetto area (north of this site) .. I am sure we will see plenty more parking lots if the demand is there.

Also, no one parks AT an entertainment district.. there will be a lot of walking around that arena when its built.

Guessing they will probably have to change some of the parking rules around the area as well, as there is quite a lot of easy-to-walk-from streets that you can park for free around that area. For me, I live about a ten minute walk from there, and would just walk!

I don't have anything insightful to say other than that it's simply awesome to finally, FINALLY, have shovels in the ground for this project. :handclap:

You should take that same picture every day for 2 years until it's done and make an album out of it. Would be pretty cool when it's done :yo:

I was making a joke about the standard anti-arena argument, which usually boiled down to parking, traffic, or corporate welfare.

The arena going up is exciting. The office, residential and hotel developments going up around the site will be just as, if not more exciting for me over the next five to seven years. The RAM site is also moving ahead at full steam which is nice to see and Fox/Ultima are both above ground.

Exciting time for Edmonton with the number of projects moving forward and in the early stages of going ahead.

It would be cool if you could take a picture from the same vantage point every couple weeks or every month, then make a timelapse of the building going up.

Thanks, guys, I will follow your suggestions :)

My current smartphone (HTC One S) sucks for good resolution pictures, I want to replace it soon. Open to suggestions.

So I'm assuming that is temporary parking in the foreground for the Baccarat? Anybody know when the casino closes?

Yes that lot is for the casino patrons. I don't know exactly when it will close, but, (and don't quote me on this) the Baccarat might be part of the new arena district in one of the buildings.

If you want a good Camera? Go for one of those Nokia Windows phones, or if you'd rather stay with Android - Sony Xperia X2 - close to stock android - very little bloat compared to Samsung phones.

I've heard of those Nokia Windows phones...I'll check them out, thank you!

Even the new HTC ONE M8 that's out in a few weeks has a lower resolution camera - better for low light, but all that is meh.

Great pics, props!
I have a few friends doing some engineering on the site.

Unless something has changed in the last few years (which is entirely possible) the company that owns the Palace and Baccarat were told they were going to get a casino INSIDE the arena. It was a big water cooler conversation at a bunch of AGLC related meetings I was at during that time.
