Obviously, Dallas had a lot of depth so it's understandable Cecconi never had a chance to crack the lineup. Should he have played with the Sabres ahead of some of the defensemen in Buffalo or is the AHL pretty much his ceiling?
Cecconi, I'd argue, has been their best dman in the Amerks playoffs.
He also a couple of things working against him to get into the NHL. The Sabres have multiple franchise players on D, and just added another top 5 pick in Byram. Add to that, the aforementioned are all young, and any moves made would be for NHL experience.
Cecconi doesn't really bring that, so in the org, he'd be aiming directly for a 3rd pair / depth d role. He has a chance with injuries, and we have an advantage that he's from this area. He has to beat out the youth though, which will be tough.
I stand by that post though. The Amerks have a lot of Sabres' drafted talent, but the heart and soul of this team is coming from Mersch, Murray, Jobst, Cecconi.
The Amerks need a lot more from all the shiny 1st/2nd rounders tonight if they want this run to continue. Time to step up, Kulich/Rosen.
