Oh, I hope it does. I've seen guys improve their skating rather signifigantly. The issue is that occurence is pretty rare.
All that been said, I could be wrong about his skating. After all, I think an adequate skater may look quite poor against the only competition I have ever seen Schremp play against.

Even if his skating remains as is he can still be a factor due to his skill level, especially on the PP. It really depends on the Oilers coaching staff and how lenient they are.

I dunno about that. I dont think a guy can play in the NHL playing strictly by & large on the pp.

Cause I see weaknesses in guys who are Oiler property?
This is on par with if you question Dubya, you are for the terrorists & they have won.

No because usually fans are optimistic, not writing off 1st rounders.

Edmonton has the fastest, or top 3 fastest teams in the NHL.. I think they can afford to have 1 suspect skater on the team..

Whether they have fast team or not is irrelevent to the issue as to whether Schremps skating is adequate enough to be a good NHL'r.

Grow up fanboy.
All sorts of guys in the past were not that great skaters & scored a ton in junior but it couldnt translate into the NHL.

True, but how many had his shot?

Schremp will be a productive NHL player even if he never sees ES ice and just one-times Hemsky passes from the hash-marks on the PP.

Plus Schremp is well aware that his skating isn't as good as the rest of his skills and that is why he is at a power skating camp again this summer.

There is nothing this kid wants more then to be an NHL star, and he will bust his butt to make that happen.

He spent the playoff run with the Oilers watching what they did to get in game shape. He knows what is expected of him. His work ethic has been complimented by both MacT and Kelly Buchberger(development coach)

Schremp will show up for camp ready to impress. Watch out.

Its like this... if you are a small player... coach usually plays you with 2 bigger linemates to compensate... by pairing him with 2 fast players, teams will have to key on Speed(since that is the ultimate tool in your books) and that will mean Schremp will be open.

Schremps skating isnt even that bad, and his shot, and stickhandling skills MORE than makes up for his speed.

I totally agree.

That being said, if anyone can survive as just a PP guy it would be Schremp. He can QB a PP like few others. To describe him as lethal on the PP, sells him short. He had almost 100 PP points last season!

I dunno, maybe cause GM's & coaches dont want a guy who is unidimensional will only play 5 mins a game.

I dont underdtand hockey because I dont think and enforcer playing 3 minutes a game is worth it... but now the GMs agree with me.. thx for contradicting yourself

Too funny. The initial point by me was that imo a player cant play in the NHL if he is basically restricted as a specialist. You used goons to try & prove a point that they can. I agreed that goons were an exception. You then wondered why goons were becoming extinct. I replied maybe because GM's dont want unidimensinal players who play 5 mins a game (as you earlier seemed to imply Schremp could be).
And your point now is , WHAT?

Here's the problem with Schremp, there is a faction of people here that hype him up like he's going to be a mega NHL scorer. I think most of us will concede he'll be a solid player but i don't know about much more than that.

Why? He was ranked after Ovvy and Malkin in terms of offensive potential in his draft class and seemed to prove that point with his almost 200 point/76 game season last year.

So what? are you honestly going to say he's in that class of players??

well he was playing half the game and was getting 2-3 minute shifts which will not happen in the NHL

No, read what I wrote. I said that AFTER those two he was the next highest ranked for offense in his draft class.

And no I don't think Schremp is in their class, he is with guys like Brule and O'Sullivan

Very true, but he only got that much time because he was doing so much with it and was his team's best player. Once he is a full fledged NHL player his minutes will head upwards of 20m.

Also the higher talent he will play with in the NHL will make up for the fewer minutes he'll get. He'll be getting Hemsky passes instead of Bolland ones.

I'm not saying that will be Schremp's only niche, but in today's game, if he can excel at that facet while being average otherwise, he can still be very valuable.

I wouldn't get too carried away with those numbers. Yes they are impressive but it's not like it hasn't been done before. Corey Locke had 151 pts in 66 games as an 18 year old, 63 goals in 66 games not much off of Schremp's goal a game pace of 57 in 57 during the regular season.

In NO way shape or form am I comparing the two, just that junior stats can be misleading. Schremp is a heck of a prospect imo, great hands and vision.
