As an '85 birthdate, he's too old. I thought he should have made the team last year though. That's assuming we're talking about the U20 WJC's.

I'm sure they've taken CHL rookies in the past. Off the top of my head I could point to David Legwand. There are certainly other examples out there but one proves the point.

Edit: BTW, if you're looking for more minority players to follow, look out for '88s Kyle Okposo and Nigel Williams.

Okposo is a forward who'll be playing the USHL this year. Like Jarome Iginla, his mother is white and his father is from Nigeria.

Williams is a d-man who'll be playing for the USNTDP's U18 team this year.

Both could end up first round NHL draft picks in '06. At this point Okposo is seen a somewhat of a sure thing while Williams is a sleeper pick because of his immense raw potential.
