that's true, theres 66 players in the nhl this season with more than 21 goals. if you figure theres 31 teams that means every team has 2 guys with more goals on average

that means that a bottom 6 guy that scores 21 goals is total crap and you cant expect that guy to score because compared to other players hes not scoring much... theres 66 players in the entire nhl that score better... that means everyone scores... umm.. wait... what the hell am I saying here? oops... dang... I think I'm out to lunch... sorry everyone please disreguard this nonsense

geeze now I'm embarrassed
Nonsense? Do you account for that Nash's goal production would decrease if he actually played in a third line role? Or do you imply Nash would score 20+ goals as a third line winger, regardless of how and where? He scores at this pace in the role of a top line winger and you don't think tougher matchups with decreased ice time would affect his production?

Ok, by all means, continue to make me feel embarrassed. And if you're happy with your top line winger scoring 20-25 goals @ 7.8m a year, while looking like someone with a hangover when he has his chances, sure, good luck with that. I know that's not the role he has in Boston, but that was the role he was paid for in New York and I'm very happy he's gone. If you imply Boston should sign him to a top 6 contract, by all means, go ahead. But I'm not recommending it.

I perfectly understand the price Boston paid for Nash due to his reputation, but the reputation for this guy is way bigger than what he delivers. His current salary that Boston pays for him ($3.9m) is alot closer to what he's worth than the albatross salary he had in New York. He underperformed a ton in NYR and when the team absolutely needed him the most, he scored 3 goals in 25 playoff games and matched the 4th liners on the team. He was eligible for the raspberry award of the Conn Smythe and he never did anything to change that in any playoff run with the team. I'm done watching this playoff bum shoot weak flubbers into the logo of the goalie from the perimeter, just to get a faceoff for eternity.

He never got meaner or more intense when it mattered. He f***ing crumbled like wet tissue, every time. He played offense like he just wanted to get off the ice. Sure, maybe he was injured before every playoff game he ever played in New York, so that's a doubt I have to account for.

You expect me to rave about him? He was the 3768th albatross UFA contract that NYR had. Good riddance to Nash, but I would like him back at half the price as a third liner, not expected to do anything but defend and kill the flow of the game. Then I would probably be very happy about him.

Speaking of goal production and your argument to make me feel embarrassed, what do you think of William Karlsson's surge in goals in Vegas, compared to his bottom 6 role on his old team? How does this logic work around that?

You know who's the top point producer in New York, all games combined? It sure as heck isn't Nash, he was merely paid and played as such. He usually looks great at not producing, so I can understand why it's so difficult to get around that this guy is not a point producer.

"Nice effort by Nash, he looked good today." Result: 0+0. Posts in the post game threads of most games on the NYR board.

As long as he can help his other linemates produce, at least you have something going. When guys like Krejci can take responsibility on the line and Nash can just help push the wagon, maybe you can find some good use of him. And when he actually produces, it's just a bonus. And he is a beast on the PK. He's a really good defensive forward and flow disruptor.

It's not like I hold a grudge towards this guy, he is what he is. He just had an awful contract on the wrong team, in the wrong role.

Hang in there man, I think he’ll be fine. He’s pretty good along the boards too, a lot like how Jagr was using his size and reach. Think positive!

If Nash cost us a couple B level prospects and a conditional 2nd depending on how we do in the playoffs, I wouldn’t complain at all. Spooner for Nash straight up would be pretty even, I just feel like we gave up too much.

You’re right though, no sense in worrying about the past. I hope he can step up soon and proves himself in the playoffs.

I’m hoping once everyone comes back they will be one hell of a handful to deal with

He could start tonight by working on his plus minus, which is -4. His linemate Krejci has been +2 since Nash joined the team, so it’s not like his line is underachieving.

Harder to play against in what way? He’s not great along the boards, not that fast, not a great playmaker, his shot isn’t that good, he’s average defensively.

His netfront presence is a clear positive, and he’s scored most of his goals in that area. He doesn’t seem that hard to contain IMO. Bergeron coming back and playing on a different line won’t change that.

“Spooner will never be a clutch playoff performer.” We traded him for someone that was never a clutch playoff performer in his prime, and is now 33. At least trade for someone like Kane who has yet to prove himself and is in his prime.
Plus minus is useless. Why are his line mates having more success? It's because Nash is giving the other team a real matchup problem.

Harder to play against because he's the Bigger, Stronger and more Talented athlete.

Nash has never been on a team like ours. Spooner will always be a perimeter player.

Loved his effort on the PK, 3-4 Bolts all over him trying to get the puck from him along the wall, must have held it there a dozen or more seconds

Remember last month when lots of people here laughed me and others who didn't want Nash but rather wanted Thomas Vanek, instead off of the board?

Yeah, that was cool.

Vanek with CBJ: 19 games: 8 goals, 7 assists

(Hopefully if I'm not trolling, I won't get kicked)...

A lot of my fellow Leaf fans ride defenseman Roman Polak because he doesn't produce much in a the way of offense. But he might be one of the only decent in front of the net presence the Leafs have on the blueline. So if Polak's on the ice, there might be some fight in front of the net, but otherwise, if Rick Nash goes to the net, it's going to get ugly for us Leaf fans. Meeting the Leafs is a perfect scenario for Nash and I think Bruins fans are going to fall in love.

If Rick Nash is healthy and on his game, he can make it ugly for lots of teams in front of the net, but the big question is gonna be "how healthy is Nash" coming into the playoffs?

Hard to say what he will be like, coming back from concussion, would have been nice if he could have got into a couple of games ,before the playoffs started.
