Gump is gone where all great rye drinkers one day are headed.. heaven. I wish I had witnessed this character first hand during his playing days. A pretty great wit to go with a hall of fame career.

    may he rip

He was vehemently opposed to wearing a mask. He was in fact the second-to-last goaltender to play without a mask. Asked about why he chose to go without he told reporters "My face is my mask."

    My favourite Gump quote:

    "I don't have a beer belly. I drink whiskey."

    Rest in peace Mr. Worsley.

It's a bit disconcerting when your early sports memories start passing on.

My memories of him were at the very tail end of his career, wearing the green, gold and white of the North Stars and sharing goal with Cesare Maniago.

You never forget a guy named Gump.

Great goalies the order of Gump Worsley are hard to find.

Great characters are even harder to find, especially in the IMG pro sports universe.

Hockey has lost one of its finest individuals and characters, a tough son of a gun, and a damn good goalie.

My all-time favorite Gumpism is when he was playing for the Rangers and a reporter asked him which team gave him the hardest time -- and Gump's answer was, "The Rangers." Classic. RIP, Gump.

A four time Cup winner, a Hall of Famer and probably the best moment he had was in the 7th game of the Cup finals in '65. He shutout Chicago. Gump was a great goalie

Whenever I played goal in ball-hockey, I always pretended I was the Gumper.
