Excellent stuff. Luckily I found the 1993 NHL Yearbook in my friend's basement tonight while we were playing hockey so I have all the results for 1992:

AWARDS

Hart
1. Mark Messier 341 (67-2-0)
2. Patrick Roy 105 (1-27-19)
3. Brett Hull 49 (1-12-8)

11. Brian Leetch, Scott Stevens 3 (0-0-3)

No defencemen in the top 10...

2. Ray Bourque 112 (3-25-22)
3. Phil Housley 82 (0-21-19)
4. Scott Stevens 44 (1-9-12)
5. Larry Murphy 37 (0-9-10)
6. Chris Chelios 8 (0-2-2)

6. John Vanbiesbrouck 7 (0-1-4)
7. Kelly Hrudey 3 (0-1-0)
8. Chris Terreri, Mike Richter 1 (0-0-1)

How did Joseph not get nominated? He was, arguably, the second best goalie in the league after Roy.

Selke
1. Guy Carbonneau 160 (19-20-5)
2. Sergei Fedorov 120 (22-3-1)
3. Kelly Miller 70 (8-7-9)
4. Brent Sutter 34 (1-8-5)
5. Doug Gilmour, Adam Graves 20 (2-3-1)
7. Brent Gilchrist 18 (2-1-5)
8. Steve Larmer 16 (2-2-0)
9. Mark Messier, Jeremy Roenick 15 (3-0-0)
11. Craig MacTavish, Paul Ysebaert 15 (1-3-1)

19. Kirk Muller 5 (0-1-2)
20. Dirk Graham 5 (0-0-5)
21. Doug Brown, Dale Hunter, Troy Murray 4 (0-1-1) (I think they have typos for these but I'm pretty sure they all got 0-1-1... in case anyone cares about who tied for 21st for the 1992 Selke)
24. Ulf Dahlen, Claude Lemieux, Bob Probert, Joe Sakic 3 (0-1-0)
28. Jan Erixon 2 (0-0-2)

9. Ulf Dahlen 14 (1-2-3)
10. Steve Yzerman 11 (1-1-3)
11. Dave Andreychuk, Dale Hawerchuk 9 (0-3-0)
13. Pat Falloon 8 (1-1-0)
14. Mike Gartner, Luc Robitaille 5 (1-0-0)
16. Greg Adams 4 (0-1-1)
17. Jari Kurri, Michal Pivonka, Mark Recchi 3 (0-1-0)
20. Craig Janney 2 (0-0-2)
21. Stephan Lebeau, Sergei Nemchinov, Paul Ranheim, Mike Richter 1 (0-0-1)

So this answers Reckoning's question from another thread: Dryden wasn't the only goalie nominated for the Byng, as Richter gets a third place vote.

That's all folks...

Why did somebody vote for Clark Gillies for the all-star team's DEFENCE position in 1982? He had already been in the NHL for almost a decade, nobody has an excuse for not knowing he's a winger.

I've got about 9 of 10 of the last NHL yearbooks I can post some results if requested.

At least 93/94 All stars team votes seem to missing, do you have those?

Also 1982/83 is missing and we have only top 3 votes from 1989/90 (and no All star votes), based on the link from the other thread.

I hope somebody appreciates this because it was a lot of work to find these numbers:

1974-75 Hart:

1. B. Clarke 127
2. R. Vachon 113
3. B. Orr 73
4. B. Parent 54
5. G. Lafleur 43
6. G. Smith 20
7. D. Potvin 16
8. M. Dionne 12
9. R. Dudley 5
9. B. Nevin 5

Vachon very nearly becomes the only goalie from the 70s to win MVP honours; he had a save percentage of .926- that would be a great mark even in today`s era, back then it was even more impressive. Speaking of goalies, that`s Gary Smith at #6. He had a reputation during his career of being a great goalie who was stuck playing on horrible teams- hence his MVP votes. While it`s true that he was bombarded with shots because the defence in front of him was weak; he wasn`t a great goalie, just a slightly above-average one.

The interesting thing about this year was that Phil Esposito, the winner in `74, and the leading goal-scorer this season, didn`t receive a single vote, especially odd considering the votes for non-luminaries like Dudley and Nevin. It may have been because Espo, while still a top goal-scorer, was becoming a defensive liability- partly due to his refusal to change on the fly. His teammate Bobby Orr, with all due respect to Clarke, deserved this award. He was a +80, this was on a team that gave up more than they scored when Orr wasn`t on the ice. The next-highest Bruin was Sheppard at +41. Oh yeah, he won the scoring title too.

1975-76 Hart:

1. B. Clarke 246
2. D. Potvin 75
3. G. Lafleur 62
4. K. Dryden 29
5. B. Park 15
6. J. Ratelle 11
7. P. Mahovlich 10
7. G. Perreault 10
9. D. Sittler 8
10. D. Burrows 5

I`m surprised at how lopsided Clarke`s win was here. It`s a shame that his antics as GM have slightly overshadowed his accomplishments as a player. Potvin becomes the top defenceman in the first non-Orr year, while Lafleur inches up the list. Dave Burrows was a fine defensive-defenceman, but a MVP candidate?

1976-77 Hart:

1. G. Lafleur 177
2. B. Clarke 83
3. R. Vachon 45
4. B. Salming 40
5. L. Robinson 28
5. M. Dionne 28
7. G. Perreault 26
8. J. Ratelle 16
9. D. Sittler 8
9. D. Potvin 8

OK, there it is. The year all you Lafleur fans were waiting for. Chooch called this his favourite Guy year, and let`s give the devil his due- Lafleur was magnificent at his best. Rogie Vachon hits the top 5 for a second time, Mark Howe would do it twice as well, yet they`re not good enough for the Hall of Fame? (how many MVP votes did Larry Murphy ever get?). It`s nice to see Gilbert Perreault and Jean Ratelle on the list again, two of my all-time favourites.

1977-78 Hart:

1. G. Lafleur 145
2. B. Trottier 99
3. D. Sittler 67
4. D. Edwards 34
5. B. Park 31
6. B. Clarke 27
7. D. Potvin 24
8. T. O`Reilly 19
9. T. Esposito 12
10. C. Gillies 5
10. K. Dryden 5
10. L. Robinson 5

Lafleur takes it again, but Trottier offers a preview of things to come. Sittler has the best year of his career. You don`t hear much about Don Edwards anymore, but the fact that he made the list both this season and the following one shows how highly regarded he was at the time. Terry O`Reilly`s appearance may surprise some, but this was actually a career year for him; top 10 in scoring while continuing his aggressive grinding style- un fortunately he wouldn`t be able to match this season again in his career.

I sure appreciate, great work. On the Vachon save%, is that now official, I thought the NHL started counting those stats for 1982/83 season. I remember someone doing estimates for earlier save%, though.

I agree with you about HHOF, it doesn't seem to be one for the greatest players any more, whether that's for career or for single peak season, even. The choices just don't seem to be objective enough. I never saw Vachon in his prime, but Mark Howe I did see, and like you said, I just can't understand why he isn't in. Personally, I've lost some of my appreciation for HHOF, but like somebody so eloquently put it on another thread: "It's not my Hall of Fame".

As for the 2002/03 votes, there's a link for them in the "original" thread (Hart trophy voting thread) started by reckoning, but I guess it won't harm to write them here also, just in case link is broken someday.

Too bad that eventually all this info disappears down on thread list, how long HFboards store the threads anyway. Well, hopefully enough people see it here now, so we can post it again in the future.

In the book The Hockey Compendium by Klein and Reif, they published save percentage totals that a fan researched and tabulated for the years `55 thru `67, `71, `75 and `76. The NHL hasn`t "officially recognized" the numbers, but nobody has questioned their authenticity. The THN Yearbook in `80, `81 and `82 had totals that a fan recorded from summaries in The Hockey News, unfortunately THN summaries were often prone to typos and mistakes, so while those may not be exactly correct, it`s better than an estimate. I`m currently trying to do the `79 season from an online newspaper archive ( the same method I`m using to find these voting results), and I`m about halfway through the season, but you can only look at so many blurry newspaper summaries before you have to put it down for awhile.

Thanks to all the people who have posted stuff.

I don't have the voting numbers, but here are all the runners up for some of the older awards.

Here`s some more Hart results from as far back as I could find. My primary focus here is the Hart, maybe I`ll look into the other awards later. Unfortunately the results are sometimes incomplete if not missing completely; but it`s better than nothing. An interesting side-note: from 1953-1968 the voting was done in two phases; they would vote at the halfway mark on the first half of the season, then vote before the playoffs on the second half of the season. Those two results would then be combined for the final result.
