this idea started with a question I have for older E-town posters.

I was talking with a dude from Richie area, remembering bars like the Purple Onion, Pig n Whistle, H2O.

There used to be a rough local bar, more in the tavern style, on the corner of 99th and Whyte. there is now a newer strip mall there with a Mac's an a Liquor Depot.

Can anyone help me out with this bar? It was pretty rough; rougher than H2O.

And there was another Biker bar on 99th. more south, towards Argylle. an old Hotel. Not the Ambassador (that was downtown) but like it . Comadore, maybe? Columbus?

I still miss the P.O. though. before they expanded it with the Bamboo Restaurant. it was an institution.

I believe it was nicknamed the 'Strattie' called the 'Strathcona Hotel' or the 'Old Strathcona' or something. I remember going there once.

Is the Union still around?

Union is still around but I believe most of their business is through concerts.

Older Bars? Then mentions places like H2O. 90's bars, Rough bars?!

You younger guppies ain't seen nothing.

Try oldtime places like the Klondiker, Saxony, Commercial, Cromdale, Yellowhead, Highway Motor Inn, Forum Inn, Ambassador, Corona, Vega on for size.

Whyte Ave as well used to be a different place as well before the 80's hit. It was far greasier and lots of Al Bundy type bars. nod. wink.

And don't forget the Beverly Crest, Covention Inn South, Capilano, Londonderry, Rosslyn and the St. Albert Inn.

Denny's American Bar

A lot of glory day Oilers and other NHL'ers would frequent that place.

I was sitting at the bar 2 chairs down from Peter Zezel and I saw a gorgeous woman drop her hotel key on his lap. He picked it up, looked up at me and smiled.

The Sidetrack Cafe...great place.

Saw Gord Miller in there once. He was with a pretty blonde that seemed more interested in some of the other men in the club. ;)

All I've learnt from this is that we have a lot of old people on this board lol

Stonehouse downtown was fun
Cowboys on the West End
Ezzy's at the Airport Ramada
Iron Horse on Whyte

Not so much Cowboys, but the other three were staples. And the Druid v 1.0

Gord sure wasn't a lady killer. Edmonton boy though. Went to Shep I believe.

Sidetrack was a great place to hangout. Used to love throwing the paper airplanes.

Lots of Oilers hung out there.
