I think it's an eye-opener for many that Ouellet is outplaying a bunch of first round picks on the Canadian blue line. He looks really poised.

What shocks me is that it was our North American scouts that got us Ouellet. Traditionally, it was always our European scouting that got us gems and our North American scouts that had many misses...

That article is made one month after the draft.

My guess is he has been 5'11 year before the draft or something.

If Jiri Fischer says he has grown an inch, and he has been 6'0 at the draft and guys are saying he looks taller than 6'1 guys at WJC... why argue against... "I know better than you!" ?

Chill out man, Jiri said he was 5' 11" and grew an inch therefore he was listed at 6' 0". That's where I was basing my comment. If I was wrong I apologize.

Sproul was also listed 6'3 at draft but he is now 6'4 at Sault Ste Marie website.

http://www.ontariohockeyleague.com/roster/list/year/2011/team/18

Richard Nedomlel was 6'4 at draft but is listed now 6'5 at Broncos Website.

http://www.whl.ca/roster/list/year/2011/team/23

Nedomlel 6'5
Sproul 6'4
McKee 6'4
Lashoff 6'3
Marchenko 6'2
Bäckman 6'2
Nicastro 6'2
De Haas 6'2
Ouellet 6'1

No midgets in the future defence, hopefully. :)

CHL websites aren't really reliable, they have often been inches more than the results from the draft combine.

From example Galchenyuk was before the draft reported to be 6'2 by OHL/Sarnia. As he's now. Was 6 '05 at combine.

Idk Ouellet has always just looked really tall compared to the other guys to me,and I've watched him countless times. Maybe thats because I focus on him too much.

Frk 2+0 today.

"The Czechs went up 2-1 at 2:01 of the second on a power play when Martin Frk’s great one-timer from the point snuck through the pads of Punnenovs. Petr Sidlik made the pass across to tee it up for Frk."

"Frk closed out the scoring with another point shot that went all the way. 4-2."

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=9Jilm_fRDDI

Later 4-2 goal on the video.

Looks like we are not short of pointmen in the future. Also Järnkrok is great at point, then Ouellet, Sproul, Smith...

Nill claims that De Haas is now 6'4". I think Nicastro could be a legit inch taller as well.

And most of them have at least a decent physicality to their game.

Some discussion about Frk's shooting power on Twitter:
Willy Palov ‏@CH_WillyPalov
Both his goals today were classic Frk. One timers from the point. Goalie unscreened both times still never saw them.
‏@CH_WillyPalov
@coreypronman I'm dead serious when I say this, Frk may the hardest shooter I've seen in 13 years covering the Q. Chad Denny was close.

@coreypronman
@CH_WillyPalov no doubt. To score from that far out, with no traffic and not have the goalie move, it's coming at the speed of light.

@CH_WillyPalov
@coreypronman He's going to break a few people's toes before his career is done.
‏@grantmccagg
@CH_WillyPalov @coreypronman His one timer is lethal...Grigorenko is close....

With the shooting skills among their prospects, the Wings' PP will be very interesting in the future. 4 guys looking for one timers and one giant like McKee/Nedomlel screening the goalie.

He shoots hard, but until he figures out how to skate properly he won't play in the NHL

Agreed. Has potential but def a project. Jeremy Williams could shoot the puck like a bullet too, and we all know how that ended up.

North American scouts are bringing in good talent: Helm, Howard, Smith & Mrazek, and now Ouellet, Sproul, Jurco & Paterson.

I never understood this line of thinking. Some of the best defenseman in the NHL are under 6'0. I don't get why people keep putting so much stock into player size.

The game is getting bigger, but you're right, it's really foolish to write off the smaller guys. Karlsson is only 6 feet. As is Doughty, Kronwall, Letang, Del Zotto, Wideman, Subban, Carle. Guys under 6 feet: Boyle, Shattenkirk, Timonen, Campbell, Streit.

All of those guys were in the top 30 defenders for points last seasons. Over a third, so it's a sizable chunk. There's lots of other guys on the list, like Suter or Lidstrom, that are 6'1". So tall enough, but not huge. But the allure of a guy who is huge and can play, like Pronger, Chara, or Weber... it's hard to beat that package. I think that's why size is so valued.

Meanwhile, J-Bo is 6'4" but has the physical game of Jiri Hudler. :naughty:

Looks like Canada's two defensive pairings look really lost today and guess what, Xavier Ouellet is not on those two pairs. Steady period with Reinhart again.

And man those United States defencemen are looking great, their are just a reincarnation of their head coach Housley. Just love to watch them.

Imo Ouellet was little rusty at first but has stepped up since. Couple of nice D plays.

But down 0-3 atm.

edit. lol and immediately 0-4 and Ouellet's man speeds past him and scores.

Yeah, now it was Xavier's turn to be burned. Every canadian defensive pair has taken a hit now. Reinhart is -2, but he has been the best guy there.

0-3 was just perfect example why Ryan Murphy is going to have Cory Murphy or Curtis Murphy career. He played the situation just right, but didn't have the reach to play against other midget Gaudreau. That would have been easy pokecheck for someone like Sproul even with worse positioning.

Down 0-4 with 20 mins to go.. Now we see how tough and clutch this Canada team really is. Almost needs a miracle now but USA played yesterday, though it wasn't the toughest game but still it has to somewhat a feel in those legs.

Well... Oullet is allowed a bad game, I think. Let's just hope he keeps it up in the Q. Everyone sucked, so it's hard to blame XO alone anyways.
