Yep, actually explains why there is a decent crop of forward UFA's, just because some GM's are willing to overpay doesn't mean we should be among them.

This was really funny because I was estimating him higher (2M figure with longer contract) and you were estimating him A LOT lower at 1.0M ballpark.

Truth was in the middle.

Marchenko (2 yrs @ $1.45M) comparables:
Moore 3 @ $1.67M
Gelinas 2 @ $1.575M
Sustr 2 @ $1.45M

Hmm. That's interesting. Might probably be more of a way to treat your dime-a-dozen role players though, not Darren freaking Helm. Players like him you have to keep no matter what.

Marchenko's deal is fair. Not a steal (though how you "steal" a player of Marchenko's talents to begin with, I don't know), not overpaid. Fair.
