Small but highly talented, one of the 2018 prospects that i'll be following closely.

Calen Addison at eliteprospects.com

@Larry Fisher (The Hockey Writers, Daily Courier/Kelowna) feature on Calen Addison.

Canada has lots of options to round out its defence for the 2019 World Juniors and Calen Addison made his case for a roster spot at last week's Summer Showcase tournament. Look for Addison to be in the mix come selection camp ... Continued at link.

5 assists last night.

6 goals, 26 assists for 32 points in 27 games. Leads in the WHL in PP assists.

I watched Lethbridge play Victoria a couple weeks ago (10-4) Lethbridge Victory.

I left the game disgusted by the Victoria's play that game, and also hoping the Canucks would snag Calen Addison in the draft this June.

Kid oozes offensive potential. Smooth skater, crisp tape to tape passes, wrist shot always made it on net, slapped had some heat to it.

Plays on the right point on the PP and feathers the softest passes through legs and sticks to the "Ovechkin" spot.

Had some spunk to his game too. He wasn't afraid to throw a couple extra wacks with a stick or face wash a guy, even had a bit of a gloves on fight with Chaz Reddekopp (6'4" 229lbs)

On the smaller side but he's definitely worth a gamble in the 2nd round.

Brannstrom went 15th with the same size and style - I think Addison has what it takes to be a 1st rounder. Not going to try to look into the future, but he's got the talent, and teams are increasingly showing a willingness to gamble on smaller players.

Has anyone else seen him lately? I've done about all the research on him I can do without actually seeing him in person but would love some more commentary. He looks like a pro on the powerplay. Not sure about the other side of the game but I think he could make it as a PP specialist alone. So calm, smart, and smooth on the PP from what I've seen.

Why is Addison consistently ranked in the 20-40 range? Yes he's small, but Boqvist, Smith, Hughes and Merkley are not much bigger and usually ranked well above him (though I've seen lists with Merkley lower).

Based off an early version of a metric I'm working on, he looks to be the best defenseman (and 10th best skater of those who have played more than 10 games) in the WHL in terms of the percent of points he scores compared to the entire team in each game he's played in, adjusted for age. Unadjusted, he's contributed to 28% of all the Hurricanes points in games he's played in.

Yeah, he's another guy I think is being underrated. I don't think the gap between him and Ty Smith is as big as it is on most lists. I like him as a top 20-25 guy.

Aside from size, abnormally large % of points on PP, and he's fairly one-dimensional. He has a good, crisp pass, but I haven't really seen the elite vision and creativity that the other offensively-oriented D this year have. I think he's fairly rated as a decent second rounder, and still viable as a late first rounder.

A lot of his production comes off his shot from the point.

Why is no one talking about Addison?

I've watched several 'Canes games over the last few seasons and the majority of them, I've come away super impressed with Addison.

With the way the NHL is heading to a faster and more skilled game, he will take advantage of it. He always seems to be the first one to lead the rush, yet the first one back - kind of the way Karlsson plays.

He has 13 pts in 10 playoff games, but 9 out of his 13 pts in the playoffs have come on the PP. Not a big fan of the +/- stat, however he is a -6 and it seems like most guys on Lethbridge are a + player so far in the playoffs. They have some guys who are +8, +14, +9, etc.

That's a little concerning to me. Has he been outmatched defensively? I have seen him before and didn't think he was terrible defensively.

He struggles a lot in 1v1 coverage, as opposed to say Ty Smith. With Smith you don't see his size being much of an issue defensively, that's apparent with Addison tho. He's great offensively tho.

He might be the best PP QB in the draft. Deadly wrist shot.

In the first period of tonights elimination game he has scored his 7th of the playoffs with another deft wrist shot in addition to drawing two penalties.

He does have a marvellous shot. Neither his wrist shot or slap shot are particularly heavy but they are deadly accurate and he manages to get them off and through traffic at a high rate.

He's in my top-3 for guys I want at 25 (assuming there are no major droppers).

Love that Dubas proved while drafting at the Soo he doesn't mind taking smaller guys at all.
