I'm not gonna look yet...is the oddball, non Cup winner Iginla...? Did he lead the playoffs in goals? I think he might have because no one really scored in those playoffs.
I didn't give the answer for the 2nd question yet, only for players who were #1 RS, #1 PO and won SC.
The second is reeeeeeeaaaaaaaly tough.
I can give you more time, but its almost impossible to guess :)

Ok.
I have to apologize and admit that I was wrong.
It was late and I didn't check everything properly.
There are not that few players, who were #1 goalscorers in RS and PO and didn't win SC.
Here are their names:

Iginla 03/04
Leach 75/76
Bure 93/94
Bobby Hull 61/62
Maurice Richard 46/47

I hope this list is correct, finally.

Always a bit of a surprise if both Gretzky and Lemieux are not an answer for a question like that, you immediatly think that Lemieux never did it, played few game during his 2 big playoff year and Hull went insane in that window, did not go reach the finals previously and 95-96 was Sakic year....

But Gretzky, you would think.

Sorry for the presentation, but I didn't find a way to insert table in more or less sutable format.
Here is a ratio between goals, scored by top goalscorer of a certain team to all goals scored by the team
I took all goalscorers since 46/47 who were top NHL goalscorers at least once.
First column is the season, second is goals of top-scorer, 3d - goals of the team, 4th is marked if he was #1 goalscorer in the NHL of the season, the last one - the ratio in %.
I think its very interesting.
TBO, for the whole picture, I should do the same for the whole #1 goalscorers of each team of each season, but it's, definitely, too much of a task for me

This methodology gives advantage for pure goalscorers. You have to at least deduct players own assists from team goal totals. Pavel Bure had 33 and 36 assists, when Gretzky had 118+ depending on the season. So Gretzky himself lowered his percentage quite much compared to Bure.

I still don't see any advantages, but ok.
Seem obvious, someone that add teams goals not scoring them by themselve automatically lower their percentage....

But advantage assume here, that is good for the number to be high (as if it told us more about themselve than how many goal they scored)

Explain, please.
Im dumb:D
Say I am a 50 goals scorer and 30 assists guy that do not add goals to my teams outside those a score very much and the team end up scoring 200 goals, I scored 25% of the goals.

If I am a 50 goals scorer that make Zach Hyman get close to 60 goals and because of me the same team end up scoring 235 goals instead of 200 then I scored only 21.3% of the goals.

Obviously the better you are at generating goals without being the one scoring them the more you directly deflate the goal scored / team goal scored.

1. Yes in a thread dedicated to goalscoring the better goalscorers have an advantage. Surprise, surprise!
2. "do not add goals to my teams outside those" - this is a long and fruitless discussion about who influenced what the most. How about defence? How about fighters? No. This is just data thread. Why the particular data is what it is is another question. People always want to have one number that explains everything. No. Doesn't exist.
3. "If I am a 50 goals scorer that make Zach Hyman get close to 60 goals and because of me the same team end up scoring 235 goals instead of 200 then I scored only 21.3% of the goals". Your "only" is significantly higher than average. Also, if you have people with 50 and 60 goals in one team it usually means that their ratio is lower than players who are high in the list.
It seems. though, that people simply don't understand what these numbers are about.
As usuall, though.

In both example both are scoring 50 goals, why do you say one is a better goalscorer than the other and why would it be the one with fewer assists ?

I think they are in large part about how good the teams of good goalscorer were and how good the goalscorer were, I think they fully grasp that it hurt people that made their teams better at scoring in a very direct and very obvious way.

How about defence? How about fighters?

Here it is more still about goalscoring, i.e. did Gretzky deflated his 92 goals seasons with his 120 assists were those Gretzkyless Oilers a 300 goals teams instead of a 417 one ?

Yes. This was my train of thought. Gretzky's 120 assists are pretty significant amount of those 417 team goals (28.7%). When you remove those 120 assists he is already directly involved, there is only 297 goals as a divider. 92/297 is 0.31%.

Whereas 2000-2001 Panthers scored 200 goals. When you remove Bure's 33 assists, it's 167 team goals as a divider. 59/167 is 0.35%, which is still more, but to me it still tells more about the level of team mates Bure had than pure goalscoring. Those Florida teams had only one goalscoring threat and this methodology emphasizes that. For example Teemu Selanne's best season at the list is when Kariya was holding out and he was the only goal scoring threat.

I didn't tell about your example that one is better than another. I mean abstract player who didnt make the list, but had many assists. I thought that you told about smth like that.
It seems, that you look at some particular player and desagree with some ratio, connected with him. If you want to suggest some explanation of some player its fine. Just say that you want to explain why ratio of player A is lower than you think it should be.
I think they are in large part about how good the teams of good goalscorer were and how good the goalscorer were, I think they fully grasp that it hurt people that made their teams better at scoring in a very direct and very obvious way.
Ok.
If so, what team is better - with low ratio of its best goalscorer or with high?

Ah. Finally. Youre talking about Gretzky' particular season.
So, Gretzky deflated his season with 120 assists, but Lemieux with his 114 (88/89) somehow didn't? ;)
