Feel free to add any suggestions for the next poll. Don't expect me to know who you want me to add, if you want someone in the poll, post it.

This is a trade-able assets thread, so Babcock (as valuable as he is) will not be included

Phaneuf returns more in a trade than Gardiner in my opinion (if we retain).

Out of the options given I went Kapanen, as he was the centre piece in the Kessel trade.

Doesn't make him valuable. Although I anticipate many will have the same thought process as you. I don't get Marlies games, but I thought Brown was the better player

Actually, that's exactly what it makes him. Brown is also the older player, and I'm sure most would agree that Kapanen has the higher upside.

having to retain on him is a hit to his value though, if we can only get a better return if we retain then as an asset Gardiner would be more valuable. I'm sure we could retain on Gardiner too to make him more valuable, but unlike Phaneuf he doesn't need it.

Yeah I guess I wasn't being clear enough. I think a retained Phaneuf is worth more than a retained Gardiner. He can play a bigger role, the only issue is the reality of his contract makes it tough for teams to acquire him (even though his play is valuable).

Does that make more sense?

I think Dermott is destined to be a top-4 NHL player.

Unlike the Finn's and Percy's (who is still a good prospect) of the world, Dermott has amazing IQ and NHL level skating. He could be a beauty for sure.

Yup! Kapanen has some name recognition that other prospects, like Brown and Johnson, don't. That has value.

Dion should be added, and maybe some guys like Bozak, Holland, and Hunwick. Add Harrington, too. They are worth more than some of the 2nd tier prospects listed.

To be honest I think in the long run Travis Dermott will be the most important player to the leafs past Marner, Nylander, and perhaps if one of our goalies turn out being great.

I think we could get more in a trade for Pittsburgh's first than Kasperi.

the thing is Pittsburgh pick is not guarenteed to be a 1st rounder(good chance it is though, can't see Pittsburgh missing twice in a row), but even if it is it could easily be like 25-30th, Kapanen was a 22nd overall pick, and is a solid young player, that's exactly the type of player we'd get with the pittsburgh pick, they're almost a wash.

I voted Brown anyway

imo the only players on the list who might bring back a first in a trade would be Kapanen and maybe Brown, neither goalie would get you a first, nor would Komarov nor would any of the other prospects so it's between those 3 now.

People need to remember that Pittsburgh pick isn't guaranteed to be a 1st Rd pick.

And the way things are looking, it may very well end up as a 2nd.

how can Phaneuf be an asset if nobody will take him unless we retain a boatload of $$

With the way he has played this season, if the Leafs were shopping him, there would be interest.

But Phaneuf is finally back to playing like the leader, and top defenceman the Leafs thought they were signing.

Rielly and Phaneuf are a solid #1 and #2 combo.
