For each team from the same division as your team. Take the 5 players, under 22 and w/no NHL experience, who are the most talented and/or have the highest potential upside (in short, are the 'best overall prospect') and rank each team in order of best overall group among those particular prospects. After, if you're interested, take the top 5 prospects from your team and rate them in comparison to the best of your division rivals.
Anyone interested? I'm going to do it after I get dinner... mmm, various eggs.

Northeast division...(excluding Mtl) by position and order

1.)Ottawa

1.Emery>Danis
2.Meszaros>Hainsey
3.Eaves<Perez
4.Mirnov>Chipchura
5.Kaigorodov<Higgins

Granted Mtl's stable of prospects has the edge.

2.)Buffalo

1.Miller>Danis
2.Vanek<Kostsitsyn (debatable but I'm being biased here)
3.Pominville<Perezhogin (close)
4.Paille<Higgins
5.Bartovic<Chipchura

3.)Boston

1.Toivonen>Danis
2.Stuart>Hainsey
3.Brad Boyes>Chipchura
4.Zinovjez<Perezhogin
5.Samuelsson<Kostsitsyn

4.)Toronto

1.Colaiacovo>Hainey
2.Steen<Hainey (proven himself in the AHL)
3.Bell<Korpikari
4.Harrisson<Korneev
5.Wellwood<Higgins

My biggest frustration of course is trying to remember to discount any players with NHL experience.

Grrr...

Back to the drawing board.

Using the original criteria, Higgins and Hainsey are off the liist for Montreal. Emery is off the list for the Sens. Samuelsson is off the list for the Bruins. Miller, Pomminville and Bartovic (Bartovic?!?) are off the list for Buffalo. Colaiacovo and Wellwood would be off for the Leafs.

That's what makes this a bit harder. Throw out anyone who's been recalled for even a single NHL game and now I'm supposed to compare Sergei Zinovjev to Tomas Plekanec (or, insert other European draftee prospect I might've been lucky enough to see once or twice in the WJC's, combined with an old CSB writeup and some fan-driven reviews...)? Yikes. No thanks.

Plekanec has played a few games in the NHL. ;)

You can't exactly look at it like:

A>B
C<D
E>F

So the team on the left has the better prospects. Using NHL players as an example

Sakic>Modano
Brashear<Lemieux
Sundin>Alfredsson

Team right is obviously better, if you see what I mean.

Best way to go by this thread would be to compare overall defensive prospects, overall offensive prospects and overall goaltending prospects with the other teams then come to a non-mathematical conclusion.

That being said, I don't know enough about my opponents' prospects to contribute to this thread :)
