Ok, Grateful Dead.

With two exceptions, I'm only doing studio albums because there are so many live albums that it would be impossible to rank them. The exceptions are last two in the list, last not because they're not as good as the studio albums (they're better) but just because. I include them because they're really landmark albums for the Dead.

Blues for Allah
Wake of the Flood

Weezer:
1. The Blue Album (1994) 10/10

Great album,.. still listen to my cassette version.
Something I've always appreciated about it, no weak spots or filler. Even the tracks that didn't get much radio play (ie- Holiday, Only in Dreams, etc), were (my opinion) just as good as the huge singles (Buddy Holly, Say It Ain't So). I remember how big that album was, put Weezer on the map.

I didn't sift thru 7 pages of posts, but in case no one has mentioned the Rollins Band, I'll add my favorites from their discography: The End of Silence. Followed by Life Time.

311

Music, 1993 - 7.5
Grassroots, 1994 - 8.5
311, AKA Blue Album, 1995 - 3
Transistor, 1997 - 8
Soundsystem, 1999 - 6.5
From Chaos, 2001 - 8
Evolver, 2003 - 6.5
Don't Tread on Me, 2005 - 7
Uplifter, 2009 - 5
Universal Pulse, 2011 - 5 (on the weight of TWO songs)
Stereolithic, 2014 - 7
MOSAIC, 2017 - 8.5

...Notes seems low, but I couldn't think of a band with that many albums for whom I didn't drop at some point (like, Weezer after Red Album, Pixies after Trompe Le Monde, Sonic Youth after Washing Machine...).

So Yeah, There's one 311 album I really hate. And it's their breakthrough. Go figure.

And yeah, there are strong arguments about MOSAIC being their absolute best.

My view of Pink Floyd is that Meddle is really inconsistent (the tracks feel like they alternate back and forth between totally brilliant and total throwaways), The Wall is good but takes itself too seriously, Piper at the Gates of Dawn is underrated, Wish You Were Here/Dark Side of the Moon are excellent, and Animals is a perfectly crafted masterpiece, IMO.

If you asked me a year ago or so, Animals would have been higher on my ranking. But at the moment it feels a bit too depressing to listen to very often...

I went by bands of whose CDs I have six or more. This is pretty indicative of the bands whose discographies I really like since I don't have much music I see as mediocre in my CD collection.

Brain Eno-17 (including collaborations)
Summoning-9
Darkthrone-9
Autechre-8
Melvins-8
