Isn't that exactly what the Brass contract was if adjusted to today's cap? Great contract for Mika. Locks him up through his 20s and then they can figure it out from there.

Now it's Staal buyout watch.

I hoped for 4.8-5.1mill but I'm so glad it is a 5 year deal not a 6-7 year deal. That was my primary concern. I have had discussion after discussion about the need to limit our deals to 5 years for no elite players. Well done Gorton!

Solid deal for both sides, in the end it's exactly in the range it was predicted. This was never going to be under $5m if on a long term deal. Cap wise this could look like a great deal as soon as next year.

Lockout protection in 20-21 season. Players probably feel like it's going to happen. I get the sense too.

Based on the reporting, it looks like NYR upped the $$$ to get a longer term deal.

I'm neutral on the deal. It seems to be more or less the correct figure. NYR werent in a position to play hardball.

Good deal.

On the one hand, I think it's about as much as Mika could reasonably hope to command. On the other, I expect it to be a very good value going forward.

Personally, I had it pegged just a little higher, at $5.5MM x 5 years, so I'm quite pleased.

Great AAV and term considering he's probably the #1 center now.

That's very interesting. The final 2 years, post signing bonus, is a total of 7.4 mil. It could be lockout protection for Zib, but it's also much easier for us to trade him to a budget team, if it comes to that. I'd like to think it won't but we traded Stepan, so who knows.

Side note: NYR again posting $ and term in their post. Been doing it a lot lately. Glad they're transitioning to this.

Good deal for both sides as others have mentioned.

So they avoided arb completely which is also good.

Now we just to find another center... that's easy right?
