Caps can clinch a playoff spot tonight. Gersich and dsp in, vrana and chiasson out
A "3 point" night with the Flyers.
+2 caps +1 flyers
+1 caps -2 flyers
Pumped to see Gersich and hope to see Ovie net 5 goals.
So he's on the team next year.
Not necessarily, he'll still have a year on his ELC and then he's a RFA. I mean he'd have to **** the bed in camp pretty bad next year to not be on the main roster, but he easily could spend time in Hershey. Let's be very clear, despite all excitement, we haven't invested much into this kid, if he ends up sucking there is no downside in trying to develop him in Hershey until it comes time to offer him a new contract.
A win here and i don't think they'll have to worry about the Penguins catching them anymore.
"Four scoring lines?... but then where do you put in the gritty grinders?" -Trotz
I agree DSP has earned his spot and I know Vrana is a LW, but would it kill us to maybe swap DSP to RW and put Vrana on the 4th LW for this little experimento?
He didn't sign a 2 year ELC -- with the first year being burned this season -- to spend time in Hershey.
Another back-to-back. Could get ugly as Kuzntesov might could've fired up the rags after his comment that he had too much space to do the lacrosse move. Hopefully the rags will ignore this quote same way as the islanders did the burakovsky quote.
Love Grubauer's attitude. Far cry from the days of Neuvirth and the mysterious bug he'd get just before taking the ice.
He didn't but he doesn't really have any say over it next season. With how the Caps tend to operate he'll probably have a place earmarked for him but he'll still have to earn it.
His preference of the matter doesn't really mean jack now that he's under contract. The team could healthy scratch him from now until his contract runs out and he'd have no real course of recourse.
The point being the team gave him a deal to keep him, a deal that highly favored Gersich, if he does not pan out they have no reason to invest more time or energy into him. He is a mid round pick on ELC money, they're not going to try and force the matter if it's apparent by next November that he sucks.
Some of you acting like Gersich is going to be the next Guentzel or even contribute like Donato may want to temper expectations quite a bit. Gersich was drafted in the 5th round, his projection has never been anything but a bottom 6 forward. He's small, like I mean he's literally equal to Mathieu Perrault in size. If, and big if, he does get playoff time he is being thrusted into the most physically demanding level of hockey in the world at the highest stakes.
Don't get me wrong, I fall victim to the "new shiny toy will fix all our problems" trope a lot too, and I hope Gersich is great. I'm super excited to watch him, hell I was banging the "put this man in the lineup!" drum all this week. But the treatment he's getting is comparable to that of a first or second round guy making a debut and the way he's been talked about you'd think we've invested the moon in this kid when in reality we're giving him a roster spot for the time being and knocking a year off his contract.
random thing ive noticed, the caps have a top 5 pp while being in the bottom 5 of pp opportunities. imagine what it would be with more pp chances
Why is Vrana always out? Shouldn't that be Burakovsky at this point? Size? What?
Their #2 player in terms of drawing penalties and their #1 player in penalty differential is sitting in the press box tonight.
him missing 7 games isnt the main reason they in the bottom 5, and another random thing, they just outside the top 5 most penalized teams
so basically bottom 5 for getting pp's, top 5ish for being shorthanded lol
I dont think people are looking at this guy as a saviour. At all. Simply a new option (albeit a very very fast one) to add into the mix. If he has some hands, he may be able to play for them, as a compliment to better more seasoned players.
Most of us are pretty sure he's not going to help much....that was never the point. Odds arent in favour of it.
Those that wanted to see him play, wanted to see what he could do, so we had something they like to call.....options. If we had last years forward depth, no one would care about Gersich right now. But we dont...we are trotting out 2 guys that are replaceable...so lets see what Gersich has.
Isn't it about PP %'s? So its not like more PP's would change their overall standing in that regard.
However, they would have more Goals/Game scored
Vrana and Chiasson? Seriously?
No it's not but it's reasonable to suspect he might not get much playing time in the postseason given the recent trend, which will impact their speed, ability to get to the dirty areas, and ability to draw penalties when it matters most.
Vrana in both cases.
If you could have any lines you wanted, what would it look like?
Ovechkin - Kuznetsov - Wilson
Burakovsky - Backstrom - Oshie
Vrana - Eller - Stephenson
Gersich - Beagle - Connolly
