would the Kia folks let me test drive a Stinger if they didn't think i was serious or do i have to pretend i'm thinking about trading my S3 in for one?

Just pretend lol.

Or, send an email to the dealership. Make it professional, say you're in the market, tell them what you currently drive. You can avoid most of the sales pitch this way too. I've managed to get to have test drives on much more expensive cars by doing that.
