95% you can scan a QR code on your phone. I'd just buy one ahead of time on stubhub, you're not going to get a better price from a scalper. Pretty desperate guys that attempt to scalp tickets to Canes games these days. Might be able to offer some of that sweet Raleigh meth.

Every time I walk past those scalpers I wonder, do they not have access to a computer or something? Listing it online means you lose literally a couple of bucks (literally) in fees, but you're far more likely to actually sell the tickets that way, and you don't waste your whole night standing around in 30-degree wind shears.

If it's a higher dollar ticket, it makes sense but there aren't many high dollar tickets being bought these days. I bought $8 tickets off of StubHub for 1 game and the fees were almost $6 so the price ended up being $14. That's a hefty cut of a scalpers profit..even for tickets in the 20-30 range.

On Craigslist, where there aren't fees, the scalpers are selling (you can tell which ads are scalpers) and I suspect they sell on Stubhub also.

I'll be going to the game against Dallas Saturday night. My first Canes home game. Ended up having to stay in Sumter about 6 weeks longer than anticipated so my girlfriend will be coming down to visit and we're going to spend the weekend in Raleigh.

Caught the Monday night makeup game vrs Detroit. Outstanding arena, great area, stayed at the Ramada at the end of the street. Walkable distance, but I drove down. BBQ nachos were recommended and they were good!!

Any advice on where to watch the NHL playoff games in Durham? Want to stay away from Raleigh because of Brewgaloo

Didn't Brewgaloo wrap up today or is Sunday the last day? Either way I'm sure you could find a place in North Hills, or Buffalo Brothers near Crabtree.

Couldn't tell you where to go in Durham. Tylers Taproom seems to be a gathering place for Canes games there, but don't quote me on that.

Tyler's tap room will usually put it on. There's Chammps at Southpoint that portrays itself as a sports bar. But you don't need to go to downtown Raleigh regardless. There are a lot of places at Brier Creek which isn't far from Durham, and Crossroads in Cary as well.

Long shot: anyone in Raleigh that has moved from Europe and would like to share their experiences?
I have "won" the diversity visa lottery and consider Raleigh top candidate at the moment.

Where in Europe? You're probably going to experience culture shock in some degree or another. Probably more so if you're coming from a city like London or Paris.

That said, I know a family who moved to Cary from Germany about 15 years ago and they had never expressed wanting to move somewhere else, except the coastal areas of NC when retirement comes. The mother and the father still live in Cary but the two sons got job opportunities elsewhere after college. I think I remember a publication that stated the Triangle was the #1 or #2 US hotspot outside the usual NYC, LA, Chicago etc. for relocating Germans to move to around that time.

I'm from a small town in Sweden with a population of less than 10 000.
I am expecting some sort of culture differences, that's one reason I'm moving. :)

I think Raleigh/Triangle area sounds interesting because I hear a lot of positive things about the people being very friendly, weather being good, solid job market and traffic not being horrible.

But it's difficult to judge a place when you have never been there.

Yeah, I had a German teacher in high school who was from Germany and lived in Morrisville (or somewhere Cary adjacent) and seemed to like the area. I remember him wanting to get a job at a school closer to home, but had no intentions of moving anywhere.

Interesting, thank you for sharing!

If you can drive, you'll love it.

If you can't, move instead to a city with real mass transit.

I never use the public transportation where I live so I'm used to the car. I think I'll be fine.

Another thing about Raleigh that doesn't get mentioned much is that you aren't too far from some places that make excellent weekend trips. The Outer Banks of NC (one of my favorite places in the world), the mountains of NC aren't huge but picturesque nonetheless, Charleston, SC, and Savannah, GA, just off the top of my head. Be careful if you ever visit Ocracoke Island, you might not want to leave.

Just throwing this out there, but downtown Cary has actually become worth a visit. For the longest time it was a downtown in name only, but they just got done with a massive place-making project that included a total upfit of the pedestrian streetscape, addition of a plaza-style park, and installation of art pieces. Also the past couple of years have seen the opening of an independent movie theater, a nice hotel, and several pretty solid nightlife spots. It's to the point now where there are actual crowds of people strolling around on any given night, and the bars are packed.

Considering where it was 5 years ago, it's a really impressive transformation.
