I wouldn't try to read too much into these tryout players. They are just giving a few players from the lower level NCAA divisions an opportunity to catch on with the organization. As for age, if you're not giving them NHL contracts it doesn't matter. If you find an AHL contributor in his mid 20's not subject to the AHL vet rule, it helps the organization.

Leafs goalie depth is pretty insane when you look at what Pickard and Sparks are doing to the AHL. but also Kaskisuo (Marlies goalie on loan), Bibeau (former Marlies goalie), and Gibson (former Marlies goalie) also own the AHL

I’m going to marlies game tommrow in Belleville. First Marlies game I’ve ever been too. Can’t wait. I’ll be going to all the games next year in Belleville. Good hockey and cheap seats.

Didn't know Bibeau and Gibson were doing so well, good for them.

Nice that AJ got the call up but based on the ice time says they didn't really care what he brought. It does appear like it might have motivated JVR so so some value there

He was out for a portion of the game after needing 9 stitches in the face

Bibeau must have fixed his technique, or he's on a very lucky run. He had great physical tools but he was just so unrefined in his technique. There were times where I do not even know why he would position himself in a certain way.

IMO we are better off with Kaskisuo than either of them, and we may not even be keeping Kaskisuo after this year. However we also may be keeping him since Sparks and Pickard both may not be back with the Marlies and they'll need new goalies to come in.

Really liked what I saw from Kaskisuo last year, if we lose one of Sparks/Pickard im sure he'll step in and do fine for the Marlies.

Babcock also mentioned that bc they were chasing the Stars for the large mid portion of the game he was more focused matching lines and trying to get back up. Doesn't feel AJ got a legit showing and that he wasn't really paying attention to AJ as an individual

He would need to be tendered a contract for next season and he will be turning 25 at the end of the year. He was somewhat of a late bloomer so the Leafs may still see him as a good #3 behind McElhinney (or maybe even one of the younger guys), but they could also look towards someone younger.

Or maybe they view him as the "veteran" of the duo and get someone younger to be his backup. I doubt Woll gets a contract yet, and Scott can not come in, so it would have to be a UFA of some sort (NCAA or European).

Josh Kestner is also new to the line up. He appears to have been quite the goal scoring machine this year with 24 goals in 37 games.

It appears Buitenhuis is the backup with Pickard the starter. Presumably this is because Sparks is up with the Leafs.

And he pots one on his second shot on goal! Plouffe also picked up his first AHL point. I did find it interesting that both players were immediately put into important situations, Kestner on the power play and Plouffe playing in the last couple minutes where the team was protecting a 2-1 lead.

Thanks you are right. I was looking at the boxscore on the AHL site and in the first period they were putting the stats under Buitenhuis, but they have since corrected it. I wish televised. It seems LNN only televises home games.

Marlies looked good last night. The new guys plugged right in and didn't look out of place. One of the (26) got a goal and third star

The Sens played their usual horseshit four guys back and pray for a 0-0 tie. It didn't work this time. Sens had 9 shots midway through the game.

Marchment looks like a steal, Holl looks like he is done with the AHL and the best player on the ice, Brooks looks like a legit 4th line center option down the road.

On the other side Neilson and Gauthier are playing themselves out of pro hockey.

Not going to lie Dubas is an evil genius and the Marlies keep rolling
