Price vs Bernier ( 05 & 06 first keeper to be draft )

First of all, Bernier is still many years away from ever suiting up at LA. He still has two years of juniors eligibility in LHJMQ. On HF Price is rank 8.0C and Bernier 8.0B ( and i know thats not mean everything at all ), but I think they're both gonna be good keeper for both team wich gotta get a lack of goalie for them in few years.

If you're choice is picking one of those two for building you team, wich one you pick ?

My signature states my opinion on Bernier, suffice to say I am completely and totally incapable of understanding why Bernier recieves 1/50th the attention he does.

Credit and special thanks to Maineiacstv.com.

Bernier has been the backbone of the MAINEiacs. He's got the talent and ability to become a top tier goaltender.

i got to say i cant wait till a guy named : thomas sychterz gets drafted
when they both played in the same league he was ranked way better than bernier
now he is playing at princeton university and hopefully soon drafted in the nhl

http://www.hockeyzoneplus.com/goalies/maaa04_e.htm
he also broke a record held by patrick roy

Thomas Sychterz will join the Princeton goaltending ranks after playing for the Lachine Maroons in the Quebec Junior A Hockey League last season. In AAA Midget, Sychterz broke several of NHL-great Patrick Roy's 30-year-old records.

Bernier has much more potential then Price and from what I have seen is much better then Price now. I watch Bernier enough times in the past two years to know what he is capable of. He is lightning fast and steals games. Lewison never had a good defense infront of him.

No way in hell is he more skilled.

Price is smarter, a better puck handler, a rock in pressure situations, and awesome reflexes. Price will become a top 5-10 goaltender in the NHL.

What pressure situations has Price faced that Bernier hasn't? NHL training camp? Bernier has speeds comparable to MAF, something Price certainly does not have. How the hell do you know if Price is smarter then Bernier also, have you ever talked to both these players? I highly doubt it.

Smarter on the ice .... You don't have to talk a a goaltender to see if he's smart on the ice. Does Bernier have more potential than Price only because you saw him more? It sound like it.

But from what I've see and heard, the two are going to be very good. I believe MAF will become an awesome goaltender in the NHL and Bernier look in some ways like him. Price is bigger, and yeah smarter on the ice. I would take Carey Price over Jonathan Bernier but it's no knock on him.

Price easily, Price has everything to become an elite goaltender, the maturity, the size, the stickhandling, the gloves, reflex and quick legs... Bernier is a bit quicker but isnt very tall and hasnt Price's skills outside of the net...

I like Bernier, I think he will become a solid number 1 but Price has just everything for him.

Congratulations on not knowing anything about this subject. You apparently haven't ever watched a Lewiston game and therefore have no reasoning behind your statement.

Anyways, I have not watched Carey Price enough to make a fair comparison between the 2, but I'd like to believe that with either pick you cant really go wrong

Price and Bernier are two very different types of goalies.

As stated before... Bernier is more of a poor-man's Marc Andre Fleury. Tremendous reflexes, speed, and recoveries... but can be over-agressive and misread plays at times... leading to bad goals.

Price is very similar to Olaf Kolzig. Methodical, good positioning, big, and an excellent puck-handler. He did have a slow start to the year and showed that the pressure of being a top pick may have rattled him a bit.

As of right now (and I'm throwing my habs fan hat out the window and putting on my "Mr. Objective" hat) the goalie with more potential is IMO clearly Price.

Price's only real downfall right now is just to obtain a level of consitincy, which he has shown flashes of during his junior carrer. IMO he understands and reads the game like a pro... that combined with all the physical tools (size, speed, positioning) makes him have the potential to be a very good goalie for years to come.

Bernier needs to learn to be more patient and calm in the net (much like MAF) and must anticipate and read plays much better if he wants to suceed, IMO. He also his size going against him, as a 5'11 goalie is below average by today's NHL standards.

I expect Price to be the better NHL'er. Goalies are the hardest players to read in junior, but Price has such a good technical game... he's getting much better at being patient, something he really struggled with early in his junior career. Those skills combined with his size, and quickness with his feet (great skater) make him a very authoritative goaltender. It's almost intimidating to face him and that type of goalie really adapts well to higher levels of play as they progress.

Bernier isn't as intelligent and he really relies on his athleticism a little too much. He's a great athlete in that crease, but he's not as good as MAF and with his size limitations I don't know if he's going to translate as well as he moves up the ladder to play at higher levels.
