    "You guys"? "Flip out"?

Your microaggressions are not welcome in this safe space.

I do feel a little triggered. Too much virtue signaling, I think. :sarcasm:

So hat trick vs. New Jersey, then?

Good ol' Gentlemanly Loss™. They were decent enough, esp. in the second period there for a while, but losing trench battles is a problem. Being too reliant on the PP is a problem. The effort was mostly there I guess but the execution and instincts still seem questionable ultimately. That along with the muddy bottom six situation makes them coin-flippish as usual.

I don't really see the battle level and that's partially due to just how reactionary and overly focused on structure that they tend to be. Taking It To Them requires a much more consistently involved level of play that they don't have much apparent desire to make their calling card. They didn't need this game but it was still a measuring stick sort of game and Nashville was more determined and resourceful. The Caps can be better but I still think they're too soft and underdeveloped in certain key facets.

So the Caps need to absolutely 100% lose to the Devils on Sat. to set up the Devils/Pens round one.

Only two teams in the east that have played the Pens really well this season the Bruins and the Devils. Pens will still win, a lot of kids on that Devils team, but the Devils can really tire out the Pens for their round two opponent.

Not sure how this squares with my "I want an Ovechkin hat trick" thing though. ;)

Thats not true. A jackets win locks them into the 3 seed no matter what devils do

I’d rather the Caps play New Jersey than the other Metro teams.

So an Ovie hat trick leading to a Caps win sounds good to me. Plus, they’ll have just beaten the team that they’ll have to play and made a statement about it.

If the Jackets play the Preds the way they just did against the Pens, I don't know man, it was ugly.

Meh. Any of the lower seeds lose to Pitt in a 7-game series, but Flyers or Jackets beat them up in the process. The Devils serve them milk and cookies while skating around real fast.

Well the problem is, caps devils is at 7pm Saturday. Jackets and preds are at 8pm Saturday

Flyers play at 3pm and pens dont play Saturday so it's gonna be really hard to play the match up game

Exactly! New Jersey will lose to the Pens, let’s be realistic.

The Pens will beat any of those teams but the Flyers or Blue Jackets will extract their pound of flesh.

Pens fan stopping over to here the chatter. Wondering what would be preferred. Taking it easy on the Devils and allowing them to take the 2nd or 3rd seed and face the Blue Jackets or potentially the Penguins. Or play them tough, beat them and ensure that you guys have to either play the Flyers or Devils yourselves?

I'd rather face the Penguins. They aren't easier to beat or anything, it's a mix of just get it over with and we need to face that skeleton anyway.

Well taking it easy on devils is a moot point unless jackets lose so basically since pens wont lose to sens it will be flyers or devils

The Devils have had their number in the regular season, though, whereas those pesky teams haven't. Maybe the Devils fold due in part to inexperience and probably still some lack of D quality but I think they'd give them more trouble defensively than the other two and probably a longer series.

A WSH/NJD series might stack up similar to the Toronto series last year in some ways and give them a quick intro to the sort of pace they'll need. In that regard, I like the match-up as you'd think that Trotz would opt for his more up-tempo lineup as well (though I wouldn't put it past him to do the opposite).

Read like the ten posts above yours, we were just discussing.

Personally I think Boston is the biggest threat to the Pens in the East, but I think the Devils can tire them out immensely for round two. Pens getting home ice tonight was a big deal for them.

I like the comment because it shows focus on winning the cup, not regular season titles. The pressure is fully on now for them now and they are a stacked team. Tonight's game was pretty entertaining for a game the Caps had nothing to play for other than personal records.
