There are some very interesting RFAs this year. The offer sheet compensation was just released. The most logical offer sheets would be the highest AAV for each compensation amount. eg: 4,000,000, (2nd) 6,000,000, (1st, 3rd) 8,000,000 (1st, 2nd, 3rd). Here are some offer sheets that I would consider.

RD Matthew Dumba: $6,000,000 - 1st round pick 2019, 3rd round pick 2019

RD Brandon Montour: $6,000,000 - 1st round pick 2019, 3rd round pick 2019

RW Mark Stone $8,000,000 - 1st round pick 2019, 2nd round pick, 3rd round pick 2019

Would you offer any of these contracts? Do you think that their respective teams would match them?

I don't know, I might lean on Minnesota with Zucker or the Leafs with Nylander (would be a great fit, imo).

Guys on the radar for this for the Oilers, besides the above mentioned.

JT Miller, Anthony Mantha, Tomas Hertl, Oliver Bjorkstrand, Ondreh Kase, Brock Nelson, Ryan Pulock, Dylan DeMelo and Brady Skjei. (among others)

Idk. It’s the same thing every year where there are a bunch of guys eligible for offer sheets or salary arbitration and nothing ever comes of it.

I highly doubt any of those guys will get offer sheeted or go unsigned but it’s fun to fantasize I guess.

Dumba and Zucker are both at least semi-vulnerable to this. They both seem keen on staying in Minnesota, especially Zucker, but I'm not going to pretend like money doesn't talk.

Personal opinion, but I think the Wild would match up to $6m on Zucker and up to $7.5m on Dumba. Beyond that things get questionable unless either player is looking for more than 5 years. Then it's pretty easy to outbid the offer sheet by adding years.

id offer sheet Mountour at $5MM for 7 years, averages out to a offersheet compensation of $7M. if the ducks match then good you just stung their cap and if they don't we get a great d man in the prime age group to match our core/.

who are you getting rid of in each instance for the oilers to actually be able to afford those salaries? especially 8 million to stone.

Montour is who I would want from that list but he's not worth 6 million yet.

With the impending cap difficulties we have coming, that opens us up to being very vulnerable to other teams offer sheeting our players. Nurse would be a prime example for this.
I don't think we should be stirring up sh#t quite yet.
I'm sure other GM's would love to stick it to us for all of the past draft lottery luck we've had.

I would just trade 2019 1st+Bear and more for Montour. Sign him to a sweet deal. He's exactly what the Oilers need

Watch Nurse get offer sheeted by Toronto for a low amount and we don't match cause we blew our load on a Ufa.

In terms of guys who might improve the team, but it won't be a massive cap hit, I have a couple guys who you might be able to pry out of locations.

Ryan Hartman might be a guy who will take step, you could try a do a longer term OS so you only owe a 2nd, if Nashville isn't as convinced, you might be able to pry the player out of there.

Stephen Johns RHD in Dallas, similar thing, you might be able set the right deal that makes Dallas balk and try to only give up a 2nd.

The Oilers don't have the cap space to poach players with the bloated offer sheet contracts it would take for their teams to not match.

Why is this even a suggestion?

If you're the Hurricanes or Coyotes maybe you think about it but not when you're a team that is going to have enough issues fielding a competitive team with their current cap situation.

None really interest me given our cap situation. Maybe Dumba

Its a damn shame we did OS Vatanen or Lindholm when we had the chance. We had the cap space and the Ducks were in tight with the cap and their own internal budget. It wouldnt have been forsure successful but the best shot we had

It would probably be Andrej Sekera. If the Hurricanes are interested, Lucic might be a possibility instead.

After the year Lucic just had we'd have to retain 1/2 salary for anyone to be interested in him. I don't think we can afford to do that at this point.

The premise of offer-sheeting means you have to pay more than the other team is willing to pay to match, which tends to mean fairly significant overpayment as their is a strong bias towards matching, we can't afford to significantly overpay for anyone right now.

The only way it would work is an extremely cash strapped team that has no proper avenues for getting rid of salary or overpaying a young guy who you think will be great and the other team might not think so highly of, for example Philly offer-sheeted Kesler prior to him breaking out.

That said offer-sheets are so incredibly rare and unless we hear strong rumors about us contemplating one, it's probably not a topic worthy of a lot of discussion. Also going to point out Chia has never offer-sheeted anyone.

Offer sheets are a bad idea. Just target teams with cap issues and try to acquire players that way. Remember that Kessel was dealt to Toronto rather than offer sheeted.

The Oilers dodged a bullet with Vanek, whiffed (though not as terribly as some make out) on Penner and other OS have almost always been matched. It just escalates salaries - including for your own club by creating inflated comparable players for your own.

Some options
Minny: Ennis at 50% retained, Coyle and Niederreiter
Winnipeg: Little, Perreault, Trouba and Myers
Pittsburgh: Hagelin, Sheahan and Letang (RHD, yes, NMC)
Chicago: Connor Murphy (RHD)

I'd also try to get Anthony Mantha from Detroit before he breaks out. Wheeler potential. Gustav Nyqvist as well.

Offer sheets are fun to think of. Problem is we've had lots of players who could've been offer sheeted and weren't. We have lots of players in the next few years who can be offer sheeted in Nurse, Puljujarvi, Yamamoto, our 1st this year. Don't want to go down that path of ticking off other GM's. I'm sure some people will bring up that other teams in the past haven't gotten screwed by it (other than when VAN offer sheeted Steve Bernier) but I don't think it's smart. Not to mention, those picks are valuable for a cap team like us.

I will say to contribute to the discussion that Montour is the only interesting one out of those players. Don't think Anaheim would sign him to 6M per.
