Some say hes the next Forsberg (with his size and physical play), some say he can become just as good as A.O. Discuss. I have never seen him play, so I dont know his strengths and weaknesses.

He will put as much point as AO, he will not be as clutch and as good hitter as AO, but he will have he same level of 2-way play as AO, Imo.

Someone actually compared Malkin to Forsberg sizewise? I guess they're similar sizewise in that they're both shorter than 7' and lighter than 300 lbs.

Their bones have the same volume! :D

Fedorov's 2-way game or close to it (in potential) and skill, exceptional playmaking abilities, combined with Ovechkin's work ethic and enthusiasm for the game. I wouldn't trade him for any player in the world.

His ceiling is higher than AO's in terms of pure offense, particularily assist wise. I would place his ceiling slightly lower than Crosby's in terms of offense though.

No, I'd rather compare Crosby to Forsberg because he isn'T afraid of traffic!

Malkin is great! Great speed and everything! He is a complete package!

A kind of MArio Lemieux with less pure talent! and Better defensively! He doesnt look to work hard like Lemieux has always done because of his tremendous talent!

That is about it! I am so excited to see him play next year!

He seems a lot like Spezza to me.
There are some differences obviously as no 2 players are exactly alike but his greatest strength appears to be his overall vision and hockey sense. They are both rangy, have fantastic puck handling and passing skills, and both have great shots they could probably use more. (although this is easy for me to say having only seen Malkin play 4 or 5 times.)

They have both had their game compared to the way Lemieux played the game, and while neither of them may be that good the similarity is there.

I don't understand this, His ceiling is higher then AO's, yet lower then Crosby's? How is that possible when AO is much better then Crosby?

:D

Malkin is going to be a sick player.

From what i have read and the 4 or 5 games i have seen of Malkin i think he will turn into a player similar to Modano in his prime.

Of course Ovechkin is much better than Crosby coming from a Caps fan. Different types of players, not a fair comparison.

I don't think he'll be the kind of elite talent that Ovechkin and Crosby are sure to be, but I could see him being a Mats Sundin type player, which ain't bad

It's all relative, depending on who he is playing with. I'm sure he could get 70+ assists with a scoring winger. Although the fact that AO is on pace for 52 goals playing with a converted center who should be a second line winger must be frightening for the other 29 teams in the league.

Malkin playing with Ovechkin would be absolutely obsurd and unfair to any defense opposing them....

NICE!

Even though Ovechkin has absolutely nothing to do with this thread, you managed to work him in there in a post about Malkin's potential. Good. Job.

Both, Ovechkin and Malkin, played for Russia during the WC in Austria in spring 2005. And Malkin wasn't far away from AO - in contrast, both seemed to have quite the same capabilites. Perhaps Ovechkin is a better goal scorer and Malkin a better playmaker, but really, Pittsburgh can be very, very happy, if Evgeny starts his career in Steel City in October ...

The next Adam Oates

and that's a compliment: phenomenal passer, great face-off specialist, good penalty killer, and future HHOFer... Malkin should be so lucky!
