2005 Ford Explorer
2016 Ram 2500

The Explorers were hand me downs from my parents. Ram was my first ever new car, although it's technically a company car.

Great mileage out of the Nissan and the first Focus. Hope for more great mileage on the newer Focus, 150,000+.

My favorite, despite frequent repairs, rust, and constant need of oil seals was: (AINEC!!)

1985-ish Plymouth Reliant (Student Car)
1989 Chevy Tracker (for $1000 at auction)
2001 Audi S4
2012 Mazda 3

The Audi was the most fun, bought it before kids, but it got too expensive to keep by 2012 with kids and mortgage.

That tracker was surprisingly fun, sort of a carnival ride disguised as a car.

2004 Ford Taurus - First car, grandparents gave it to me. It was a good, reliable car for a lot of its life, but the suspension was utter shit and it turned into a money pit toward the end. Admittedly, being my first car I didn't really maintain it as well as I should have. Luckily, some lady pulled out in front of me and totaled it and her insurance paid for me to get a new car.

2005 Dodge Stratus - Bought it with the insurance money from the Ford + a little more. It was a great car, and I was a lot smarter about maintenance with this car.. Put a lot of miles on it commuting to and from college. Again though, like the Ford, it turned into a money pit and at the end of its life it was leaking oil from everywhere, water pump was jacked up (which is an overly-complicated fix, given its position in the engine).

My current vehicle is a 2004 Toyota Avalon. I've only driven it for about 6 months now, but it's a great vehicle. I wasn't really planning on getting it, as the Dodge shit the bed and I was without a vehicle so it was sort of a late-minute thing. It's incredible how the Dodge and Toyota are about the same external size, but the Toyota has a lot more space inside. The car is a year older than the Dodge, but in terms of features is actually a much nicer vehicle.

I had a Tracker. I loved that little truck, and yes it was fun.

In order of appearance:

-1993 Eagle Talon TSi AWD Auto - Eventually swapped to Manual before having an Automatic in those cars was cool.... Still have it and probably always will.
-1990 Eagle Talon TSi AWD manual - Still have it sorta. It's at my parents house and hasn't done any meaningful driving since GWB's 2nd term...
-1992 Ford Ranger Sport 4cyl. RWD manual - Sold
-1993 Geo Prizm manual - Best money ever spent. Sold it to a buddy who beat the tar out of it for another 4 years and it never complained...
-2006 Saturn Ion Red Line w/ Competition Package manual - Sold
-1990 or 1991 Ford Probe LX (V6) manual - Bought with a friend as a project. Kinda got stolen, then recovered and scrapped
-1991 Geo Prizm GSi manual - Bought as a rough project and was unfortunately scrapped before I knew how rare it was...
-2011 Ford Ranger XLT 4cyl auto - Was a company vehicle when I worked as a field service engineer. Returned when I left the job.
-2002 Subaru Impreza WRX wagon - Sold and (sometimes) missed
-1994 Dodge Dakota Sport (V6) RWD auto - Eventually swapped to a V8... Still have it
-1994 Mercury Capri XR2 - A rare car, but was too rotted out and I eventually parted and scrapped it.
-2008 Honda Fit Sport manual - Still have it. It's my current everyday car.
-1995 Dodge Dakota (V8) RWD auto - Was super cheap because it looked like it had been driven through a war zone at least 10 times. Eventually donated it's drivetrain to the previously mentioned 94 before being scrapped
-2002 Ford Escape XLS 4WD auto - Got it because my GF needed a car. Both are still around :thumbu:
-2006 Chevy Cobalt SS/SC G85 manual - Ended up throwing a rod shortly after I got it. i just got done parting and scrapping it last month.
-1991 Dodge Spirit R/T manual - Rare low mileage survivor and garage queen. Still have it and I'll never get rid of it.
-1993 Mercury Capri XR2 manual - $500 project that blew a trans after I drove it about 9 miles... Still have it and it's waiting for me to install that trans that came out of the 94 earlier on the list
-2000 Chevy Camaro Z28 auto - Purchasing it from a buddy and haven't brought it home yet...

1989 Dodge Aries K
1995 Toyota 4-Runner SR5
2000 Pontiac Firebird Formula
2001 VW Golf TDI
1995 Ford F150
2010 VW Golf TDI
2008 Toyota FJ Cruiser
2009 BMW M5

The M5 is obviously the most enjoyable to drive, but I really enjoyed my FJ Cruiser for a while. It was nice not ever having to worry about what the weather (WV mountains) might do or where the road might take me. It's just too bad the FJ sucked at absolutely everything on regular ol asphalt.

Can now add a 2005 Toyota 4Runner to the list. Picked it up a couple weeks ago to beat up on in the winters.

What did you think of your FJ? Have never been in one...

The FJ was really great when you needed it to be. I loved taking it on local ATV trails and just busting up rough dirt roads with it. Was a real monster in the snow with the factory locking diffs.

Unfortunately I used it as an every day driver, and it really sucked there. The visibility is worse than anything else I've ever driven, including a handful of low tight sports cars. The ride sucked (part of that was probably the fact that it was a trail team edition with more off-road oriented suspension) and the fuel mileage was terrible (the autos did much better on fuel than the manual) and the 4.0L mine had recommended premium.

Even with all the negatives, I drove it for about 2 years and put 15,000 miles on it, sold it for $250 less than what I bought it for, haha.

Edit: Unless you like the quirkyness of the FJ, or plan to make it a true off-road rig, you're much better off with a 4Runner or Tacoma.

Chronological:

1989 Mazda 626 turbo hatchback. Silver. First car, and modded and crazy fast.

1993 Ford Probe GT. Silver. Modded and what an exhaust note with the Borla exhaust

1996 Nissan Macima SE. Emerald green. Manual tranny and what a great car with a strong motor.

1999 Mustang GT. Back to silver. 35th anniversary and picked up on April 17. What a great car, manual tranny.

2002 Volvo S60 T5. Black. Manual with that cool space all shifter. Best seats and Dynaudio sound system. Car had long, long legs and fell in love with the style.

2005 Ford Mustang GT. Black/red leather. This car was lowered when I picked it up as the wheel gaps were bad. Picked up April 17. What a coincidence! Harassed everywhere as people loved that retro style. Fast and reliable. Loved it!

2008 Infiniti G37S coupe. Pearl white. Manual. Great car. No complaints and was a great GT car.

2011 Mercedes C63 AMG. Black/Sahara Beige. Monster. Just a Monster.

2014 Mercedes C63 507. Iridium Silver. Wasn’t ready to move on and this car I miss to this day. Monster. Nervous, angry monster with the best sounding NA V8. Maybe ever.

2015 C400. Iridium Silver. Wife scared of the 507 , and when I had kid activities in her car she had to drive it. This was a great car, a mini S Class. Full jam and air suspension to boot.

2017 C43 Brilliant Blue/Grey . Quick, awd and performance exhaust is sweet. Very stiff though

2016 Corvette Z06. 7sp manual. Intoxicating. Scary. Can’t imagine going quicker!

1964 Impala
1975 Dodge Dart
1977 Olds Cutlass Supreme

Then my married years

1985 Dodge Lancer
1986 Plymouth Voygeur mini van
1993 Dodge Dakota
1997 Dodge Dart

2010 Subaru Outback
1997 Plymouth Concorde. Kinda embarrassing to own this one, but my 90 year old father gave it to me in 2011. Big comfy chesterfield seats. Big doors on this 4 door sedan. Mom and Dad could get in/out easily.

2014 Subaru Forester.

A pretty dull list. I tried to go for efficiency over expensive glitz. Lived close to work most of the time so my city mileage was low. In 1990 bought a cottage 225km...140m away so then there some good highway mileage..

Best vehicle and I still have it my hunter green 2010 3.6l six cylinder Outback....9 years old

why not...

96 Chevy Corsica
99 Land Rover Discovery
99 Mazda MPV
00 Jeep Cherokee
03 Ford Mustang (only one I bought new and owned the longest)
03 Ford Escape
05 Ford Taurus
05 Ford Freestar
08 Mazda 5
08 Chevy Cobalt
09 Volkswagen Jetta

Land Rover, Jeep and Mustang were the most fun to drive. Jeep, Freestar and 5 were the most practical, MPV and Cobalt are the worst of the bunch but got the job done.
