I've heard they've had a lot of reported transmission issues with the new Tacos, my dad has a '13 and loves it, I pray that's not the case with yours.

From what I've read the issues are confined to the 2016s (first year of this new gen) and most issues were taken care of with firmware updates.

No problems at 9800 KMs and first service done a couple months ago.

My cars have been:
2002 Toyota 4Runner Sport (totaled with 259,000 miles)
1998 Toyota 4Runner (sold with 206,000 miles)
2011 Lexus ES 350 (currently 80,000 miles on it, bought with 55,000)

Bolded is my current vehicle but I am constantly looking to get back into a 4Runner. Preferably a 4th gen 6 cylinder but if I can find a clean 3rd gen I'd do it in a heartbeat, only problem is being in MA they're all rust buckets.

I adore the 4Runner's too but a loaded one was a hair over what I wanted to pay so I just went all out with the Tacoma.

Still own the Cherokee and the Wrangler.

'97 Jetta (scrapped at 94k, ruined suspension and other issues)
'95 Legacy (hit by drunk driver and totalled at 208k)
'04 Impreza (running fine at 151k)

I can't wait til 2020 so I can buy a car from the 2010s. Also, 90s VWs are trash.

1964 Chevy Impala starting to rust ....though it was close to it's last legs
1975 Dodge Dart rusted also, but sold the slant six engine
1977 Olds Cutlass 350 engine, not fuel efficient and was getting worse
1985 Dodge Lancer rusted also but it didn't have much life in after just eight year
1986 Chrysler Mini Van block leaked
1993 Dodge Dakota excellent, 5.2l (318 engine). a friend still drives it around his farm
1997 Honda Civic good car...wanted something bigger
1996 Plymouth Concorde.....my Dads old car and so I could drive my parents around in the chesterfield seats. frame rusted and collapsed.
2010 Subaru Outback six cylinder engine eight year later, might be best car I ever had, and still do.
2014 Subaru Foster not exciting but very comfy

Cars are much better in every way. Mileage, longevity, brakes, tires, not rusting. Styling inside more bland now....

Great mileage out of the Nissan and the first Focus. Hope for more great mileage on the newer Focus, 150,000+.

My favorite, despite frequent repairs, rust, and constant need of oil seals was: (AINEC!!)

2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee - my moms, drove it in high school as she worked from home.
2000 Toyota 4Runner - dad bought it for me as a graduation gift from college for $2K, had 200K miles on it. Totaled it a year later and made about $3K off insurance.
1998 Toyota 4Runner - drove for 3 years, put almost 100K miles on it, sold it for slightly less than I paid with 225K miles on it
2011 Lexus ES350 - got rear ended on highway and totaled it.
2013 Lexus ES350 - currently has 95K on it and drives like a dream.

I am waiting for the day I don't drive 60 miles a day on the highway so I can get back into a 4Runner. Fell in love with them, especially the 3rd gens. Next one will either be a late model 4th gen or a 5th gen (if I can afford it).

As I think I said earlier in this thread (or another one), already have both. Two kids and a partner who is essentially my wife. Still don’t need a mini van.

1964.5 Ford Mustang - still restoring, 17 years later.
1988 Ford Mustang GT - rusted and sold.
1997 Plymouth Neon Sport - first beater, drove it into the ground.
1993 Nissan 240SX - stock, pretty meh.
1990 Mazda RX-7 GX - meh. Not a great car by any stretch.
1998 Dodge Neon R/T - 2.4L swap with a turbo, mighty quick car (12.95 @ 110). Sold to a friend.
1998 Dodge Neon R/T - looked identical, but a beater. Somebody smashed into it while it was parked.
1995 Honda Civic CX - legendary car. It had 400,000ish km when it got some mice in it.
1996 Honda Civic CX - sold it after a week, preferred the 1995.
1993 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution RS - my race/fun car, I never want to let it go.
2004 Nissan Sentra 1.8S - beater, drove it into the ground.
2006 Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart - total turd, hated it.
2008 Honda Civic Si sedan - entertaining little car.
2001 Honda S2000 - Never had more fun on 4 wheels. These put a massive smile on your face.
2013 Infiniti G37X - reliable, boring, comfy, hoping to never have an issue with it.

Bold
= still owned. The S2000 needs to go, though. I'll keep the other three cars for a very long time.
