Why not work in the reverse order, get a bunch of guys to put together some lyrics, chop it up and add it to a song later?
As far as I can tell, based on my own failures putting together something, the song seemingly needs quite a few of the following:
- Not moody. Needs to be up tempo or inspiring/celebratory
- Not a gloat, but an underdog story building up
- Original. Lots of the songs in the last few years have been depressing or could be interpreted as emo.
- Needs to be specific, cannot be a generic "Go Flames Go." Need to talk about lots of our roster and the boys on the farm.
I've tried to keep my ears out for something, but not much actually fits. I'd love to say that Drake's song works, but can it fare much better than "Anything is awesome" or Tubthumping, 500 miles, Fatboy slim's praise you, Pharell's happy song, blurred lines or anything in the last year? As far as I can tell, the above selection is either moody and not celebratory, an anthem in its own right (not fair to put lyrics over it) or just ADD all over the place.
That being said, you can't expect to put together something that will make everyone happy, but it seems like a celebratory hip hop of some sort and perhaps a hail mary throw at a country song might work.
My ideas for lines might include:
- Something about home and dome
- New beginnings
- Play for Gio, maybe mentioning of playing for all injured players?
- The boys working hard
- Believing in our team
- Thanking the team/cheering/proud
- Hartley
- Mentioning the huge performance of key players
- Overcoming the view the Flames were to fail
- C/sea of red
- Partying/celebration
Good luck. I'd post something more concrete idea wise but I'd rather not bring cricket chirps to this thread.
