The Flyers overtime win against the NYI secured the team 4th overall in the Eastern Conference, which means they will open up at home against either the Senators or the defending Stanley Cup champions the Buffalo Sabres.

“We respect both teams. One is a more of a run and gun team, while the other plays a more defensive brand of hockey, but both are equally dangerous. Whomever we play we’ll have to be ready to work hard,†explained the Flyers coach.

With the win, the team will finally be able to rest some players, including Martin Brodeur a key ingredient to the team’s recent success, whom sources close to the GM have disclosed that Brodeur is all but ready to sign a four year contract extension. If true it will likely mean Brodeur will finish his career in the City of Brotherly Love.

Tim Connolly who has been on fire the last month of the season secured the team $2.5 million in endorsements with his 35th assist on the game tying goal. The Flyers had already secured their radio broadcast deal by surpassing the 75% attendance mark and another $3.5 million from Most Valuable player candidate Simon Gagne who passed the 40 goal mark a few weeks ago. Gagne also leads the HFNHL in points with 102. If not for a wrist injury, Gagne might have secured the Rocket Richard trophy as he was leading current leader Marion Gaborik before the injury.

In total the Flyers have pocketed $7.5 million in endorsements. A first round playoff win could mean the team rakes in another $2.5 million in endorsements with the added bonus of a second round playoff gate, however they’ll have their hands full with either Ottawa or Buffalo.

Notes

With a playoff appearance secured it means the team has been in the playoffs every year under the current team management…If Gagne hangs on it will be the first time a Flyer has won the point race….This season marks the first time the team has had three players finish in the top 30 in points…The Flyers are 2 points behind the NJ Devils for most team goals…NJ finishes with the LA Kings while the Flyers finish with Carolina.
