Former 2nd round pick, bounced around our echl and AHL teams. Got claimed by Carolina. And then waived again by them and reclaimed by us. Now he has a key role on our PP and looks like an nhl player.

good thing mcdonagh isn't elite...

but Fast is definitely a gem and rangers should be proud of him.
From 2012 on, when not paired with Girardi, McDonagh is top 10-15 in every measurable defensive category.

It's not his fault he's been shorthanded at even strength most of his career.

Yes, mcdonagh is very, very good. But he has nothing elite about him, really. He's a very solid #2

Rust and Guentzel. 3rd round picks, spent a good bit of time in the system but the work has paid off. Both have been Key to our back to back cups. Rust can play anywhere,PK and never has bad games, always doing something positive.

For players traded for, Justin Schultz.

Definitely Nurse. Especially since he was snubbed from the WJC Canada roster and people said he has no brain or hockey IQ.
He's been playing great hockey and averaging 25+mins a night recently. Offence starting to show as well with 0 PP time.

Stralman was waiver garbage, came to the Rangers, and turned into a star. I feel pretty good about that.

Jesper Fast also comes to mind. Sixth round pick not thought of as particularly skilled that we molded into an effective player in multiple facets of the game.

We've really stuck with Kreider despite people giving him a lot of ****, and honestly, those people are nuts. Kreider has exceeded draft expectations. He was never a PPG in college and was a .5 PPG in the AHL. He's since turned into a bonafide first line wing at the highest level.

McDonagh wasn't supposed to be elite.

Also happy with how Stepan, Hagelin, Zuccarello, and Buchnevich turned out. Even Kevin Hayes has made clear improvements this year.

I think some of our signings and a lot of our drafting is open for criticisms, but the Rangers' development is top notch and kept us competitive.
AND OF COURSE BRADY SKJEI. but this post is dead on otherwise

Hellebuyck. Drafted in the 5th round in 2012. Now giving the Jets steady goaltending that they have been needing for so long.

I also like the Ducks ability to draft and develop their many young defensemen.

Reilly for the Leafs.

Edit.

I wanted Tomas Jurco to be that guy. Anthony Mantha sorta fits the mold. People thought he was a bust and management even took a shit on that guy. Some thought he was toast after his injury too

Marchand might be the best developed player in a long time. Credit to Julien for that.

Ferland, lots of opportunities to not develop him into a top 6 player and the team really stuck with him and gave him some chances to contribute.

Marchand and, to a lesser degree, Krejci, were developed in the organization incredibly well. Both were down the list of prospects while higher rated prospects never amounted to much and neither had much of an impact on entering the NHL, and given just enough leeway but strong arm that they both developed into the players they are today. Marchand especially.

Not a single player, but more the influx of Sheary, Rust, Guentzel, Murray, and Dumoulin in the past 2 years. Pens drafting and development came up big when they needed it most. Don't win the last two cups without it.

Mikael Granlund for the Wild.

He was a star before coming over to North America, but the problems were obvious during his first seasons. He was too weak and too slow for a long time, and got knocked around by opponent's big defensemen all the time. He worked on his strength and skating, and now he's the best forward on the Wild. Had a nice 26 goal, 43 assist season last year playing as a W.

HM to Spurgeon, Zucker and Haula

Scheifele...sent him back down to the minors for two years and let him ripen and now have an elite center.
Winnipeg is showing how to draft and develop...you don't trade your picks and you put up with a losing team until your picks start to develop. You also employ smart scouts.
Morrissey wasn't brought up until he was ready....Connor was sent down last year and again this year for a brief stint andnow starts on the top line with Wheeler and Scheifele...Ehlers will be a star in a few years...Laine isn't given any special treatment and has to earn everything he gets...Roslovic is 2nd in scoring in the AHL. They are developing their players properly.

Ryan Ellis.

He was thought of as being way too small to be a regular defenseman in the NHL despite an incredible showing in junior. Many said he may amount to be a power play specialist at best and sheltered on the 3rd pairing at even strength.

He just anchored one of the best defenses in the league in the Stanley cup finals.
