He’s 31 so 3 years would have been better but he would have got more as a UFA.

He’s a constant producer and consistent.

Not a bad deal for the pens.

He's one of the best heart and soul guys to ever play for the Pens. The amount of space he generates is just unreal. He's worth his weight in gold for a hockey team. AND, best of all, he scored 60 points and damn near 30 goals when healthy.

Dont like this longterm for Pens. Have to stay away from contracts like that when you already have so much money tied up in your top forwards and defensemen. He is a very good player but think it will hurt them in 2-3 years when Murray is up for a new contract.

Good deal for an invaluable player. Guys like him also carry value at the trade deadline down the line if he needs to be moved.

Think that is a slight overpay for him, but guess the Pens are going for it in this window with Crosby and Malkin and that's all that matters

Love everything that he brings. Glad he isn't going anywhere. Probably a year too much but at that point I don't think it will matter anyways since the big guns will all be mid 30s. Also will be an expansion draft option for Seattle.

nonsense. cap is going up. back when they got him his salary was 7% of the total team's salary. under his new contract he's at 6%. caphit it totally manageable, regardless of his play for the last couple of years of his contract.

Haha I remember when Empoleon8771 said Hornqvist was 100% gone and not re-signing and tried to make me look bad.

Lol

Wish it wasn’t 5 years, I think 3 or 4 would have been better but overall love the contract.

Hagelin (4 million), Schultz (5.5 million), Sheary (3 million) and Brassard (3 million) will be coming off the books the year before or the same year as Murray needs his new deal.

With the stupid contacts that had been given out before to UFAs, he probably would have gotten 6mil for 5 or years years this summer. Glad the Pens locked him up and surprised they did at that cap hit. Might be a year longer than you’d want but the Pens are in win now mode for the next few years.

For you people who say he got overpaid: You have no idea what you are talking about. He is the heart and soul of the team and as important to the powerplay as Crosby, Malkin and Kessel. He will give everything he has to the team every single second and gives Malkin time and space to do his magic. He is worth every penny and more.

not gonna get picky over this one. Hornqvist doesnt rely on speed or skill to produce so if those things deteriorate as he ages, thats probably fine. The only issue with him will be his health towards the end because the man takes a beating.

What's the pens cap next year are they gonna have to give Sheary away or does hags contract end

But tbh it's a good move keeping the core together till Crosby and malkin are done
