Devils fan here, hate to say it, but looking back, you can clearly see Philly were the winners of the 03 draft, followed by San Jose. Anyone disagree? San Jose's players have made a significantly larger impact at the NHL level so far than Philadelphia's players (other than Richards and Carter) have, but yes, I agree with you that these two teams were the major winners.
If you're going to include marginal players like Ruzicka and Potulny, at least include Josh Hennessy from San Jose's side. He has potential as a top six forward following two good AHL campaigns. San Jose takes it.
nashville did pretty well, too. can't complain with picking 3 of your future top 6 defensemen, 2 of which are already solid contributors. 7 D Ryan Suter 153gp 9g 31a 40p 37 D Kevin Klein 5gp 1g 0a 1p 49 D Shea Weber 107gp 19g 31a 50p
San jose and phillie won the draft no doubt here but it help to have 2 first rd pick but who care about the 03 draft in the 05 draft the habs stole the show with price, latendresse, kostitsyn and dagostini sure nhler and aubin and paquet (clarkson) with outside chance of making it...go habs go lol
isles clearly stole the 2007 draft selecting kessel katic gregiore lacroix and gratchev all sure top 6 potential.
hmmm well know that in 5 years. Right now nobody won the 2007 draft. Heck were just starting to see about 2004, hints of 2005.
Anaheim wins the 2003 draft right now. Getzlaf and Perry were key players on their Cup run. In fact, Getzlaf was Anaheim's top scorer in the playoffs. Perry was tied for second. You can have your pedestrian regular seasons stats and projections. The bottom line is Anaheim has two players from the 2003 draft who were big parts of their Cup run. And that's why they're the tops from 2003 at this point in time.
San jose is the winner for depth but Anaheim win this draft IMO. Getzlaf and perry are a lot better than carter and richards IMO. winner = anaheim
Fair point. But even knowing that, I think we can definetly call San Jose winners... Someone heard about the 1st pick of that year. Sidney something I think. Where is he right now? Still NHL potential? Nobody other then the penguins won the 05 draft...
a lot better, thats a stretch. mind you those guys do have a ring. but watch over the next 5-10 years, carter and richards and picard could catch up and surpass getzlaf and perry.
As of now there no other winners than Anaheim, 'cause both Perry and Getzlaf were key contributors to something called the Stanley Cup which is, I think, the goal to obtain in the end.... While San Jose has more chance to win this draft in the future, Michalek had a great season, Bernier was somewhat dissapointing this year that may had to do with expectations, Pavelski needs to prove that he can do it on a regular basis and Carle while he had good start did have some ups but tremendous downs as well defensively and nobody in that bunch upgraded their game in the playoffs when needed. Not saying they'll never will, on the contrary, but declaring them winners after seeing the Getzlaf-Perry duo dominating most of the games and be key factors, is totally wrong. Add to that the depth that Drew Miller will bring and that the pick they got for Shane O'Brien that gave the Ducks Logan McMillan and it puts a little more weight for me to declare them winners as of today. Now we'll see how the Sharks top 4 players will develop in the future and it does look really great, they might finish ahead but not yet.
while for know until/if carter develops to his potential philly got awesome picks. all 5 of those guys you mentioned could be on the team next year. picard should be a good 2 way 2nd pairing guy. has shown great flashes. had a 5 assist game against new jersey. san jose also did awesome though. and suter + weber is awesome for nashville. and anaheim with getzlaf and perry. but if all flyers picks reach potential theyll come out of the draft with 4 top 6 forwards and a top 4 defenseman
At the moment I would take Getzlaf and Perry over Carter and Richards. Right now Getzlaf is clearly better than all 3(Put this guy in the east and he's a 70 point guy imo). Perry is still very raw but had a good season and an excellent post season (14 of his points were at even strength) but I could be persuaded to putting Carter over him if a good argument is made. Drew Miller projects to be a very good 3rd liner, and Shane O'Brien will be a top 4 defensemen in this league. I think the Sharks have the best draft from top to bottom though but I wouldn't put philly in my top 3 to be honest.
the Flyers were winners in the 2003 draft, but they were not the big winners of the draft. I love the draft they had and I love the potential of the players they came out of the draft with, but credit has to be given to the teams that have gotten the more immediate results at this point in time.
Thanks for the props but as a Philly fan, I take SJ's picks 7 days a week, twice on Sundays. I'm higher on Potulny than most, and I doubt Ruzicka will be anything special.
I'm with you. Ruzicka's a really unmotivated player and when bodies Flyer he'll literally dissapear (its hard to see a guy when he's dropped to the ice and curls up in the fetal position) so I don't think he'll end up being anything. I'm also pretty high on Potulny but he's hasn't proven much yet. San Jose had the best draft as of now. Nashville, Anaheim, and Philly are all pretty close.
