I'm excited for some more fire peters talk!

I'd say, at this point start there. It doesn't appear they can make any roster changes/trades that will influence the outcome this season so at best we sell a few now, get a small return, attempt some off season moves, and hope to God some combination of draft picks, prospects and acquisitions pan out.

I'm irrationally frustrated with this team at the moment, but this rebuild is struggling. If they can't make a significant change in goal, add legitimate offense, and for f***s sake a leader, I fear we're looking at yet another season similar to this one. That seems like a tall order though. The Canes are improving, but at a slow pace. It's not nearly good enough. No bueno R. Franco.

You're just like management. Accept mediocrity. Quit on each other. Use the word "unacceptable" but don't mean it. Sit and watch as Rome burns. I'm surprised you're not RF's advisor.

There's a difference between losing at home to the Penguins and what happened tonight. And if you can't see that, I suggest you try a different sport.

I accept the reality that's presented before me. It's a reality that's been here for almost a decade now. You can change the players, change the coaches, change the GM, even the owner, but even throughout all those changes, they're still the Hurricanes.

And the Hurricanes routinely put forth efforts like tonight. If you haven't caught onto that after this long, I suggest you follow a different team.

I suggest we all follow a different team. The Knights look super fun!

I was worried when the Wild acquired Staal, considering his play in the final years in Carolina/Rangers. But it's been enjoyable watching him play like he used to.

I do wonder if his play went south simply because he became "the guy" and it messed with him.

So depressing to watch. I don't think we're out of the playoffs, but watching that made me worry about the value of being in the playoffs as a 4 game warm up act for the Lightning.

We need to do something at the deadline that improves this team. Being seen to do nothing is just a middle finger to the fans. We're one point out somehow still. We can still do it - just at least look like you want to make the postseason, please.

For what Ward got his misconduct?

And please, get rid of Peters, did any of you saw that pre-game speech he gave? (they showed it on broadcast) It was so luck luster when this is one of the most important games of the season. He was coming with an attitude like - this is like every other game, nothing special here. Like WTF?

I am sick of accepting losing all the time. We need better.

He broke his stick on the net and slung the remains the length of the ice after the 3rd goal. Or 4th? Or 5th? Or 6th? I forget which one, there were so many.

I'm not sure that's not the right approach: that this is just another game, nothing special, that the team just needs to go out and execute, giving themselves a chance to win.

Especially if he's been taking the opposite approach lately, stressing the importance of every game as a big game and every divisional opponent as one the Canes need to win against...and it's not working.

I don't know how you retain a coach after a performance like last night. It's more on the players than the coach, obviously, but they gave up. That's the worst effort I've seen in years, and I'm pretty sure that's the 3rd time I've said that in the last couple of months, when they're in the thick of a playoff race. Not sure what you do with Francis at this point. Difficult to allow him to hire the next coach if he's on a short leash as well, as he should be.

Eric had one clearly sub-par season and it just happened to be his contract year. Many here described him as old, lazy, and broken-down...most wanted to "move on". With the benefit of hindsight, this was a bad decision for RF. Would this team now give up two 2nds and Saarela for all star center.

Last night was more about talent than it was about effort. This board has debated whether or not the Canes have the worst group of centers in the league with Jordan. Pull him out of the lineup and play a Pens team firing on all cylinders and this is about what it looks like.

Uhh no. Not to imply we have talent that can even sniff the Pens jockstraps, but that was an indescribable level of laziness.

It was Peters. If a guy who's gotten 70 a year for everybody playing with everybody on good teams and bad all of a sudden drops off the map, and then immediately rebounds. Who else can it be? Ooh, he was lazy! Ooh, he gave up! People were saying that about him every season. And he was putting up 70 during his 'lazy quitter' seasons.

You act this is Philadelphia Eagles playing Temple University. This is the NHL, Pittsburgh shouldn’t be beating us like this full stop. Period. Exclamation! Even Arizona would put up a better fight. Ironically, Just writing off losses like this is exactly our front office’s mentality. We’re the Cleveland Browns of the NHL but with Aho.

Pittsburgh dropped over 4.5 goals a game on average for the past 11 games before this one.

They’re the 1st place team in the division, coming off 2 consecutive Cups, and it’s about to be March. Earlier in the day they made a trade to try and push them over the top for the playoffs. They’re dialed in and red hot.

It was not at all surprising that they’d come in here, against a team without its best (and only defensively competent) center, and smoke them like a cheap cigar.

This is exactly why I didn’t want Ward in net last night. We told him to try and win an almost unwinnable game, let him get beaten down and frustrated, now we go to Detroit for a game we *should* win and we have either the smoldering remains of Ward or the headcase Darling in net.
