WHL DRAFT REVIEW

Smitty Werbenjagr: After playing 47 games for Yorba Linda (CAHA), Smitty was drafted by the Prince George Cougars. Werbenjagr scored 19 goals and had 5 points with a -2 rating. That year, he spent 22 minutes in the box and registered 116 shots. He was drafted at #35 in the 2nd round.

Mynamea Jeff: After having a good year in the PCBL for the Seattle Admirals, Jeff secured a spot with the Tri-City Americans, being drafted at #28 in the 2nd round. In 50 games, Jeff had 36 wins and 8 loses, with 6 ties. On average, he had 2.31 GAA and 0.911 SV%. This is tricky due to the fact that the Americans have also picked up fellow goalie James Pinckney.

James Pinckney:
The 2nd CAP goalie to be drafted, on the 2nd team. Pinckney was drafted at #6 in the first round by the Tri-City Americans. Many people think that this was just a trade chip after they saw the Americans draft Jeff in the later round. Currently playing for California in the CAHA (same league as Smitty), Pinckney has gone 6-7-6 in 19 games. Many teams in the WHL have shown major interest in him, so expect his rights to be traded sooner then later.

KEY Trades in the NHL

James Neal has left Las Vegas Golden Knights and gone to the Colorado Avalanche for the rights to Shane Bower, the rights to Conor Timmins and Nicolas Meloche

Jordan Staal has left the Carolina Hurricanes and gone to the Columbus Blue Jackets for the rights to Alexandre Texier and the rights to Andrew Peeke and a 2nd round pick.

First Rankings

OHL

#1 - Tom Davis:
Currently ranked at #1, he had a couple great years where scouts have checked him out. In 2017-2018, he played for the Springfield Ice Hawks in the EMHA, scoring 14 goals and 37 points in 48 games. This far into 2018, he plays for the Sudbury Nickel Capital Wolves in the GNML and has 2 goals and 11 points in 10 games.

#9 - Chuck Sauce: Ranking at #9 is Tom Davis's team mate. Last year, he played for Weyburn Energy Wings in the SBAAHL. He scored 25 goals and had 56 points in 50 in 161 shots. He then moved to the Sudbury Nickel Capital Wolves in the GNML and has 3 goals and 9 points in 10 games.

#10 - Steven Borgiani: At #10, Borgiani played last year in the GSHL on the Saskatoon Outlaws. He was mostly a fighter, raking up 76 PIMs in 50 games. He then went on to join the Toronto Red Wings in the GTHL. Being an elite defenseman, he only has 4 assists but 25 PIM in 9 games.

#14 - Francis Fury: Borgiani's team mate, this hard working center came from the Notre Dame Hounds Bantam AA in the SBAAHL where he scored 24 points and had 49 points in 40 games. This year he plays for the Toronto Red Wings in the GTHL and has 4 goals and 9 points in 9 games.

#24 - Nick McDangles: Nick is higher this far in the draft list. The reason for this is that he can play 3 positions, so more teams are interested. He played 50 games for the Belle Tire U16 in the T1Emm with his brother as a team mate. He scored 8 goals and had 21 points. Unlike his brother, he went on to play for the Little Caesars U16 in the HPmm. This far, he has scored 1 goal and 4 points in 9 games.

#30 - Dylan Meyer: Dylan Meyer is currently ranked at #30. Last year, he had an alright year for the SSAC Bantam in the EMHA. In 49 games, he scored 7 goals and had 24 points while being at +12 with 54 PIMS. This year, he plays for the Mississauga Sens in the GTHL. He scored 1 loan goal and 3 assists in 9 games.

#43 - Brody McDangles: The brother of Nick, Brody took a different path. In 50 games for the Belle Tire U16, he lit up the league scoring 36 goals and 53 points in 50 games. After an amazing season, he moved to the PCBL to join the North Shore Winter Club, where he has 7 goals and 14 points this far in 10 games.

QMJHL

#10 - Andrew Millan: Currently playing for Halifax in the NSMMHL, he has 9 goals and 17 points while being -1 in 11 games. The main reason he is rated so high is his last season. He played for the Calgary Canucks in the CAABL. In his 44 games. he racked up 29 goals and an impressive 32 assists.

#11 - Nicolas Gagnon:
Unlike his brother Dominic Nicolas stayed to play hockey in Montreal this year. Last year, he played for the Calgary Bruins in the CAABL, scoring 13 goals and 35 points in 377 games. This year he plays for the Montreal National in the LEQ. He ha played 11 games thus far, scoring 4 goals and assists.

#12 - Dominic Gagnon:
Playing in the GSHL last year with the Saskatoon Outlaws, he scored 12 goals and 19 assists in his 28 games. He then made a jump to the QMHL where he became the face of the team for the College Charles-Lemoyne Riverains, where he has 3 goals and 6 points in 9 games.

At #2, the Barrie colts select... LW Chuck Sauce!
"We are lacking a left winger on our team. We have groomed out great NHL players such as Bryan Little, Andrei Svechnikov and Ryan Hamilton."

At #3, the Kitchener Rangers select... from Sudbury... LD Tom Davis!
"We are so happy that Davis fell to us. We ha np choice but to scoop him up! He will suit up most likely on the top line, and have a great year here in Kitchener."

At #11, the Saginaw Spirit select... RD Steven Borgiani!
"With two of our RD's 20 years old, we here in Saginaw will be looking to sign Borgiani asap. We feel like he will bring a new style of play to the team, which we look forward to."

At #12, the North Bay Battalion select... Irish winger... Nick McDangles!
"We rarely draft players who aren't from North America, but when we do... they become studs. We feel that Nick McDangles has an amazing style of play. Its rare now a days to find a player who can fill in both on the offensive front and the blue line.

At #15, the London Knights select.. Francis Fury!
"Wow. That's all I can say. We got our man! We hope to slot him in within the next couple years. We love his drive, and passion for hockey.

With the 23rd pick... the Kitchener Rangers select... Irish forward Brody McDangles!
"We welcome McDangles to the team. It will be interesting to see if we can work a deal out to get the two brother to play together, either here or on another team. Tom Davis had a huge say in this pick.

At pick #97, the Niagara Ice Dogs have picked up Dylan Meyer!
"We can't believe how low he dropped. We will prove everyone wrong who passed him up. We believe that Meyer will become a future NHL star.

qmjhl-ice.jpg

At pick #4, the Saint John Sea Dogs select... Playmaker Andrew Millan!
"We are happy to pick up Andrew. We are lacking centers, and feel that he can give us that extra push in crunch time"

With pick #8, the Charlottetown Islanders select Dominic Gagnon!
"We can't believe that this guy fell to pick #8. We had a hard time choosing between him and his brother, but ultimately we felt we needed a player who was more committed to playing center."

At pick #10, the Quebec Remparts pick Nicolas Gagnon!
"We will show the Charlottetown Islanders that they made a mistake picking the wrong brother. Nicolas has Quebec ties, and we feel that he will be right at home playing for us.

5 Guys, 3 Questions

In this episode, we will ask 3 questions, which will be answered by Peter, Dan, Tom, Jesse and Nick. The answers will be short and sweet.

1. Who will be drafted first?
P:
Andrew Millan. Every NHL team needs a good center.

D: Chuck Sauce with out a doubt. The 5 new teams will need a solid LW to play on the 1st line.

T: I Don't usually feel that goalies get drafted early, but I got a good feeling that my man James Pinckney will be.

J: With the new teams in the NHL, theres more roster spots. I'm feeling that Steven Borgiani will be drafted first.

N: Mynama Jeff. South Korea and Mexican. It would be historic.

2. What pick will the highest player overall be drafted?
P:
Number two.

D:
Number 1

T: I think it will be around the 5th pick

J:
I'm hoping pick #1, but there is a good chance it will be a 10th

N:
Obviously number 1

3. Who will win the Calder?
P:
Andrew Miller, no doubt

D: Oscar Steen.

T: Austin Jayson. Every goalie carries a team

J: None. I don't think any rookie will win it.

N: Dominic Tucker. Solid D. Solid Player

FIRST PLAYER GETS DRAFTED TO THE NHL!!!

After an amazing season in the USHL with the Chicago Steel, Ethan Teverbaugh has been drafted in the 4th round (#122) to the Washington Capitals!! In 58 games last year, he scored 29 goals and 87 points. Teverbaugh has committed this season to the New Hampshire Wildcats in the Hockey East league.

Let the Scouting begin!!!
Vojtec Czurzinkowsky
has been approached by scouts of the Toronto Maple Leafs. Last year, Vojtec played for Richmond Hill Coyotes, potting 24 goals and 50 points in 49 games. He has commited another season to Richmond Hill, so we will see what happens!

Cody Hall has been contacted by 4 colleges so far. The first is the Colgate Raiders, located in the ECAC... They are willing to look past the 3 wins last year. The 2nd team is the Assumption Greyhounds. Located in the NE10, they are lacking goalies and are heavily ready to invest in Hall. Third is the So. New Hampshire Penman, located in the NE10. This college promised a starting role. Last is the Eastern Washington Eagles in the BCIHL. The least likely option.

Austin Jayson is a under rated goalie. Four college teams are interested thus far. First, the Fitchburgh State Falcons in the MASCAC. They went through last season with two 29 year old vets. They are in desperate need of goalies. The 2nd team is the Framington State Rams, who have an unhappy goalie. Third is the Franklin Place Ravens, who are looking to gain goalie prospects. Finally, the So. New Hampshire Penman from the NE10, who have promised a starting role.

Mynama Jeff has been scouted by the Montreal Canadiens. They have a low prospect pool in goal, and are thinking of adding another prospect. It will be a rare occurance that a player from Mexico and South Korea is in the NHL.

Nick McDangles is the first of the two brothers to be scouted by multiple teams in the NHL. So far, the Buffalo Sabres, Washington Capitals and Seattle Kraken have shown interest..

Samgei Salbov is one of a kind. This Russian defenseman not only was a #1 pick in the CHL Import Draft, but has interest of 9 NHL teams. So far, the teams include the Anaheim Ducks, Calgary Flames, Carolina Hurricanes, Chicago Blackhawks, Dallas Stars, Philadelphia Flyers, Arizona Coyotes, St Louis Blues, Vancouver Canucks.

Johan Steen has been scouted by two teams this far. Both the Nashville Predators and the Dallas Stars. He has yet to lose double digits games in Sweden, losing 9,1 and 9 respectively.

James Stewart is currently playing in the NAHL and got the attention of 4 colleges. These include the North Michigan Wildcats in the WCHA, Bowling Green Falcons in the WCHA, Brown Bears in the ECAC and the Massachusetts-Lowell River Hawks in the HE.

Joseph Turner got the attention of two colleges. First is the Boston College Eagles in the HE and the Maine Black Bears in the HE
