Who knows? Im gonna guess that it's not intended and that's why he is laughing (that said he probably subconsciously aimed to put it where it wouldnt be an icing, ie the goal)
But I mean that's just a guess.

Thread did not deliver on the promise of the title. I was very much hoping for an actual pool-style shot with the butt end of the stick. 2/5, wouldn't read again.

It is definitely an accident, but it is Ovie. So if he says it was intentional I would believe it.

Special joke for Russians: "Staff-captain Ovechkin"

Translation for English speaking ppl: There is a Russian western movie with the character whose name is Ovechkin and his military rank is staff-captain. He is famous mostly for his success in Russian billiard.

I wouldn’t be completely shocked if a player did this on purpose. These guys spend half their lives messing around on a rink, they know the angles to do whatever from wherever. Gretzky in particular was well known for having a mental map of the boards and being able to put the puck exactly where he wanted it.

This one in particular? Hard to say but Ovie’s expression looks like probably not.

Ovie looked pretty surprised, so I think it was just a happy accident. He missed the pass pretty badly though.

I wanted Chiasson to get the ENG to complete the hatty.

The first one seems to be a pass to Chiasson, but the second one is just reacting and trying to get it out to the neurtal zone with a pace that doesn´t end in icing. Reacts like it was curling. Misjudged in a way that it almost seems to gain speed. Fun EN goal.

Same player that did this

Maybe he worked on it in practice and didn't tell us?

I love the shot. I hate threads that have anything to do with Ovechkin because it just leads to trashing him. Is that better?
I'm a Caps fan and I didn't like the play. Obviously it went in so it doesn't hurt us but if he missed the net it would have been an icing. That wouldn't have been the end of the world either since we were up by 2. I'm a believer in getting to center ice before going for the empty net to avoid a possible icing. If your team is scrambling in their own end and you have to relief the pressure then by all means ice the puck. That wasn't the case on that play.

Is there anything this man cannot do?

If Ovechkin's speed diminishes when he gets older, he will still have his smarts and hockey sense. This is an example.
