I think a fairer comparison would be:

Semin - Ovechkin - Fehr - Eminger - Green

vs

Crosby - Malkin - Stone - Welch - Whitney

But Pittsburgh still wins easily imo.

Not in my mind...
Ovechkin>Crosby
Malkin>Semin
Fehr>>Stone
Green>>Welch
Eminger>=Whitney (in a different way.)

Until Malkin shows the excellence he has displayed here in the NHL, it is a fair comparison.

How about Dan Cleary (1997), Michael Henrich (1998), Jani Rita (1999), Ron Hainsey (2000)....all drafted 13 overall....same as Semin

We could even go back to Dean Chynoweth (1987), Joel Savage (1988), Linsdsay Vallis (1989), Michael Stewart (1990), Joe Hulbig (1992)......All drafed i nthe same spot as Semin.

Your philosophy is a joke...

Players are worthless until they actually prove what they can do in the NHL?

Sometimes you need to look at potential, and take a damn chance on it.

In terms of potential Crosby/Malkin, but if I were to build a team I'd want the Ovechkin/Semin combo, not too many teams have a dominant left winger, non the less two of them.

If we are going to go there, all things being equal player-wise, far fewer have two franchise centers. And that is by far the more valuable position:

If it were Crosby vs. Ovechkin, I'd say Ovechkin but very close
but Malkin is 10x better than Semin so easily the crosby malkin i like better.

Its like saying

Wayne Gretzky
Mark Messier

Mario Lemieux
Martin Straka

It just doesn't fit...

Obviously I'd take Crosby/Malkin, just look at what a team can do with two first line centers (think Forsberg/Sakic).

However, I am sick and tired of people calling Semin some wacked out money hungry headcase. That might be what's going on, but nobody really knows. He's been quoted saying he wants to play for Washington, and when he did play here, he looked very content--like he was happy with the success he was having.

Please, people, stop insulting when you have nothing to back it up. It's immature, unfounded, unfair and probably untrue.
