Average age was still only 28.6 years old over the entire season's roster, so it falls well short of the oldest. But I must've subconsciously skipped over that one as a potential contender, because I feel queasy whenever I'm reminded of Wayne Gretzky's cuppa coffee with my hometown Blues. Too bad it was decaf he was sipping in the 2nd overtime of his final appearance in a Bluenote vs. Detroit. :banghead:

I think their playoff roster was higher in average age. Here’s an article I found that focused on that team and touches on the number of 30+ year olds they were loaded with.

10 Facts About the 1995-96 St. Louis Blues
How old were they? Other than the 21-year-old Pronger, the next youngest Blue to dress for at least 50 games was 27-year-old enforcer Tony Twist.

Gretzky, MacTavish, Anderson, and Huddy were all 35 or older, as were Jay Wells and Basil McRae. Both goalies were 33, and the team ultimately used 22 players who were in their age-30 season or later.

Actually, the answer is the Detroit Red Wings......

I'll try and look up the years, but it was recent history - Stanley Cup winning team.. :wally:

:wings

EDIT: 2007 -2008 season. 31.7 years. (Think - Dominik Hasek (46), Chris Chelios (43), Nicklas Lidstrom (37), Kris Draper (36) and Darren McCarty (35).)

The 1966-67 Leafs by comparison were 30.67 years old on average...

For oldest cup winners, Detroit holds the top two spots(31.7 in 07-08 and 31.17 in 01-02)

Not sure if the 85-86 Habs(24.48) were the youngest ever. If so, I find it interesting that Chelios would be apart of both the youngest and oldest cup winners.

I did a quick calculation of the 1984 Oilers' playoff roster(s), and it came out to average age 24.92. One of the older guys (Pouzar) and one of the youngest guys (Summanen) didn't play all the playoff games, so I suppose if I removed each it wouldn't change the average much.

Re: Wingsfan 4 Life's post (above), how are you certain those two teams you mention are the oldest?

Those 67-68 Penguins clocked in pretty close at 31.4 but I only figured players who were in 40+ games with the exception of backup goalie Hank Bassen who played 25 games.
