Back before on page 29, post 719, I gave my metal listening history and forgot to mention the following albums: My Dying Bride's Angel and the Dark River and Tiamat's Wildhoney. I got these from a friend on a cassette when I was in high school.

Saw LOST SOCIETY, CARACH ANGREN, and CHILDREN OF BODOM last weekend.

COB did only old songs for their 20th anniversary, which was great. Lost Society was good thrash that never got old, and Carach Angren was symphonic black though I suspect some here wouldn't think they were genuine enough. They were good but I wasn't exactly hoping for a longer set. Bodom were very tight and kicked ass.

Heretic is one album that always appealed to me with the few songs that were crunchers. Those songs epitomized mid-era Morbid Angel for me, but as an album, it is definitely inferior to their first couple albums.

Norwegian Death/Doom from 1995. Way ahead of its time.

Just curious, but how do you figure it was ahead of its time? Sounds a lot like the general style bands like Paradise Lost and My Dying Bride had been playing for years prior.

Was more thinking of it along the lines of Esoteric, Evoken, and Mournful Congregation.

Not really metal, but better odds of people liking this here than in the progressive thread. Apparently Mick Barr put out an EP under his own name in 2016 that I missed.
