A team doesn't need to lose in order for State to jump them. Beating Pitt and ND on the road would absolutely be enough to hop other teams that continue to win.
Realistically, State will be borderline Top 20 after this win. They were 24th, University-6 was 17th, and a 39-25 win wasn't exactly the kind of tail whuppin that sends teams flying up the standings. You won't get much credit at all for beating Pitt with how garbage they've looked this year, and a matchup with ND at best would be two mid to low Top 20 programs. And really, without losses, who would they jump? Florida, maybe, but after that (ignoring ND assuming you're right and State knocks them off) you have a slurry of teams with equal or better wins on their resume, who have losses to better teams than SCar. Utah, SDSU, USF, Miami, and Wazzy are undefeated, and will continue to rise as they pile up the wins (won't crack Top 4, but the pollsters won't keep them out of the Top 10 if they finish undefeated). You're not going to punish the losses of WVU (VT), Florida (Mich), VT (Clemson), Oklahoma St (TCU), USC (Wazzu), Auburn (Clemson), or Ohio St (Oklahoma) over the loss by State to SCar, and that's literally everyone standing between them and the Top 10 right now. Obviously, there will be losses by many of the teams in that list, and a couple of them (Utah/Wazzu and Miami/VT) still have to play each other, but its a tough call to say that State is going to be jumping all those teams, even if they continue to win, and that's assuming any of the teams just on the outside of the rankings don't pull off a major upset, vaulting them above the Pack.A team doesn't need to lose in order for State to jump them. For USF and SDSU maybe, thing is the other teams in front of NC State are playing big boy teams as well, and frankly many of them playing teams that are better, in many cases a hell of a lot better, then Pitt or Notre Dame.A team doesn't need to lose in order for State to jump them.
