The Nashville Predators scored more than 3 goals for only the 3rd time this season and the result was their 3rd win of the season. Jeff Halpern assisted on 4 of the Preds 5 goals and the line of Brian Savage, Eric Belanger and Sean Avery combined for 6 points to give them a well-deserved overtime victory.

Midway through the 2nd period Nashville was down 4-2 but managed to strike back in the powerplay. Kristian Huselius and Brian Savage, both with their 3rd goal this season evened the score. The 3rd period was scoreless and overtime was old 3 minutes and 25 seconds when Chicago defenseman Todd Simpson decided to take matters in his own hands. He started a vicious fight with Sean Avery who got caught by surprise and was beaten up badly in the end.

Simpson was ejected for his actions and his plan to light a fire in his team had gone wrong. Just 9 seconds later Brian Savage scored his second goal of the game off a perfect feed from Jeff Halpern.

Halperns 4 assists earned him first star of the game honors and an interview with TSN's Bob McKenzie after the game where he appeared to be angry about Todd Simpson "That guy is just classless. Sean is the nicest guy around and Simpson just picked him as random victim. Sean was lucky that he wasn't injured."

Notes: Lauri Tukonen was voted into the WJC Allstar Team what earns his team the 2nd million of the Mountain Dew Endorsement deal after Jiri Hudler had scored the required 40 goals in the AHL just a few weeks earlier. GM Tony Kapfenberger is obviously very satisfied with the progress of his young guns.

Bah. Simpson was just having fun. Told Avery that he was going to have his wife for dinner and he got upset. Not Simpsons fault that Avery can't take a few punches. He's suppossed to be a tough guy. Makes up for losing the game. I need a beer after that one or a bottle of grey goose.

I wonder whether Halpern has actually MET Avery? :sarcasm:

Congrats on the win, Tony.

Halpern is protecting his teammate, thats what a good assistant captain should do. Though he probably knows that Avery is a pain in the three letters...
