Can we quit with the thread-jacking? It's boring.
Technically, it's a thread-jack by proxy to quote a thread-jack. Just sayin'.
Speaking of the off-season and not doing jack, where will Kruger end up? Hopefully elsewhere and not Charlotte.
So do you guys have some insider info about Jack?
No, just Jack Johnson.
Patrik BARTOŠÁK - age 24, goalie
Sorry for spamming, but maybe we can make a move for this man in the offseason. He has best save percentage after regular season in the Czech league (0.933) and he is the main reason why my hometown club HC Vítkovice made a 4th place after regular season.
He is CHL goaltender of the year from 2012-13 season and Calder Cup champion from 2014-15 season. He also represented Czech Republic in the Olympics, but he was 3rd goalie.
He was near to be a second goalie for the Kings, but on the start of the 2015-16 season his girlfriend sued him for domestic violence. LA reacted to this situation and benched him even from ECHL, because in this year they have also problem with Voynov (domestic violence) and with Stoll (holding cocaine) so they were very sensitive for every scandal. Before the end of that season LA allowed him to play in the Czech league and after some time it turned out that his ex-girlfriend lied.
I think he could be our 3rd goalie with good potential, because he played good when he was in the AHL some season ago and he is a star in our league. Maybe a repacement for Jeremy Smith, because he is awful and competitor for Nedeljkovic.
^ I do think that’s the sort of guy the Canes should be looking for. He’s clearly got some potential, and he’s at an age where it won’t take forever to see what he can do.
I guess the question is, what does it take to get him back to North America? Is he willing to play in the AHL or ECHL and work his way up? Is he willing to take a very short contract in order to get that opportunity? Depends on his life goals.
Necas's team (Kometa Brno) will be playing Bartosak's team (HC Vitkovice) in the Extraliga Playoffs Quarterfinals. First game is March 13th. I would guess the Canes will have someone there watching those games so they should get a close up look.
Honestly, and this may be the most confusing statement given the guys reputation when he was a player, but I give a TON of credit to Tom Barrasso when he was our goalie coach when it comes to getting Cam from an "oh god, what are you doing?" level guy to legitimately good when it comes to playing the puck.
@Unsustainable nice leg work
I literally copied and pasted
Could be he meant nice gams.
I’d like to know what came of the domestic violence situation, personally.
I mean, I like winning and if he could help us do more of that then that would be cool. At the same time, however, I’m not particularly fond of men who beat women and wouldn’t like to see any on the team.
Said that the ex dropped the case and she was lying.
That’s some messed up **** right there.
Didn't Burke do that as well? Beat his wife that is? Wasn't that why we didn't keep him?
I believe Aaron Ward did the same
Think Burke and his wife both got charged but hers got dropped and his charge got lowered or something like that. He was rumored to have a temper though so it wouldn't shocked if it was true.
Still the best goalie I've seen play for us. You guys would've loved him during his Whaler prime.
He got moved with Sanderson because of the article in SI where they both made comments about missing Hartford and saying things like "we never realized how good we had it" while the team struggled through the early Greensboro days. Those two were the best two players on the Whalers team that arrived on your door, and JR realized he had to clean out the core a bit so the team would start accepting the move more.
The first thing RF needs to do this off-season is call up Chia and make a deal with that dunce.
NYI and NJ have been fleecing him if RF can't get in on the action he should be scalped and the team renamed to the Carolina Cherokee.
Fun aside, I was playing in a Whalers skills camp at around 10 years old and Andrew Cassels was teaching the shooting and Sanderson was teaching the passing and I asked one of the other coaches why that was based on their skill sets and he laughed his ass off. Said Sanderson needed to work on his passing too.
Did we trade Geoff or did we lose him to the Columbus expansion draft?
Nevermind. Looks like he went to Van then Buff and was snagged from Buff by the Jackets.
Awww that's awesome. That's a great experience, get any pictures? I'd have those framed in my man cave "office".
And BD that trade is burned into my brain. That one was kick in a balls to any Whaler fan, them trading away everyones favorite two players right after leaving. It made sense, but there was a couple of years right after they moved where I didn't pay as much attention and it was pretty related to that trade. Lifestyle and lack of tv options played into that too but I was really bitter the first two years or so.
No I think I still have the jersey somewhere though. I know I’ve told some of the Whalers alumni camp stories in here before with Gordie Howe. Living in the greater Hartford area as a kid in the 90s afforded me plenty of opportunities to interact with the pros.
I was a little too old for that, I was already in high school/college playing and we had little interaction with them. It was a great time and place to be a hockey fan though. Tons on tv, cheap tickets with the CC a short drive away, I was up to my eyeballs with the Whalers and hockey. I did go to some practices at local rinks when they would have them, in the preseason I think.
Pshh... I know a guy who constantly brushed shoulders with Olympians. He'll be happy to tell you the stories.
