so a player is only a "former player who team x reacquired" in their first season back?

lols
The point was the A’s have a precedent of acquiring former players who were washed up at the time (Lowrie, Moss, etc.). If you think Lowrie was a pretty good player at the time of the A’s trading for him I don’t know what to tell you.

They obviously didn't expect him to suck when they traded for him.

A's saw what he could do in 2013 when healthy. He was healthy last year and the results showed. His problem has never been a lack of ability, it's been a lack of staying healthy.

But when the guy has a great season last year, it kind of nullifies that point. Usually you sign/trade for a player in hopes that they will improve or help the team.
Who cares what he was last year? He wasn’t good when they traded for him, just as everyone is proclaiming Moss isn’t good now.

"A's have a precedent of acquiring former players who were washed up at the time"

proceeds to give a guy who had a down year and had an excellent 2017 and a guy who was acquired as a throw in as examples

You keep bringing up his 2017 as if it means somethings

Kind of think most of baseball feels like the 2017 season is relevant.

You're missing the point. Just because a guy was a bum one year doesn't mean he's worthless and has no value. A's are basically built on the premise of buying low and selling high. So yeah, you're gonna see them pick up a lot of players that maybe didn't overwhelm the year before in hope that they can bounce back or offer some value in a different role.
