Why though? Schneider is a good AHLer and a vet for all the young guys, why down grade? It’s not like Brickley has potential left and he’s not better than Schneider. Weird move, same position as well

Edit-Schneider is actually captain as well
Someone in the Garden ownership office screwed up by sending the Wolfpack the “Tank at all Cost” email and sent the Rangers GM the “Win at all cost” email.

NYR have a history of trading away good AHL players if they ask for it, oftentimes even for trash returns. I think it's their way of rewarding "good soldiers," even if it's not with their organization.

Ryan Graves for Chris Bigras
Kris Newbury for Danny Syvret
Chad Kolarik for Benn Ferreiro
Tomas Kundratek for Francois Bouchard
The list goes on.

Most of those trades involved trading away very good AHL players for clearly inferior AHL players. In more than one instance, the reporting has been that the GM (Sather/Gorton) is giving the player a chance to find a spot with another organization. None of those players turned into regulars after leaving the NYR organization, but that's not really the point.

this rings true.
Interesting timing with this, following NYR recently 'releasing' Vince Pedrie from his NHL ELC, then he signs w Milwaukee, Preds' AHL team

Pedrie had fallen to 8th of 8 minor-league LHD on NYR NHL deals.
I had hopes they might swap for a similar limited upside ELC RHD, such as Bouramman of Wild ...
